Could not create PlexData share

Hi all - I updated to 1.20.1 before looking through the forums and am having the issues others are seeing. I followed the steps above, deleting the existing PlexData share and folder and recreating them. That has Plex working on my iOS devices and in Roku, but not in a web browser. When I load Plex in a browser I get a 404 error. That would be fine, except I can’t manage the server without web access. Any suggestions on what to do to resolve this?

That seems to be close to the problem I’m having

To share some clarity.

Any errors reported regarding PlexData – Have absolutely NO BEARING on PMS itself.

PlexData is nothing more than an intelligent Shared Folder which points into your Plex metadata just like PMSLibShare does.

If the PlexData share issue can be resolved by deleting the one created and creating one manually, – The issue isn’t PlexData.

Please create a fresh thread and include the Log files ZIP

ok…would appreciate not being reprimanded, I am just trying to help. I am trying to follow your instructions and also trying to give my point of view which was that it started when I updated. It may not be related but I thought you should know in case you needed to troubleshoot…I uploaded the log files here as you asked. Please check. I will be monitoring the thread as everything is still down on my end. Thanks

And as I said earlier. I do appreciate all the help. Very much so, I am just frustrated. Thanks

I’m sorry if it sounded that way. That was not my intention by any means.

There are multiple issues in this thread.

Doesn’t clarify which one.

Is it the apparent issue with PMS 1.20.1 not restarting cleaning – requiring QTS restart

-or-

Is it the documented and well defined erroneous error PlexData generates in the QTS log?

When a thread becomes a “Catch All”, it’s impossible to know which is which from a “Me too” type post.

Make sense?

Thanks, this solve my problem!

I followed your instructions. works good now. I ended up here after getting the same " could not create “PlexData” "error

To all reading here.

The FAQ is now updated to include the PlexData share

I have had the same error message when upgrading the Plex media server, however I have tested and I can still stream from my server to my devices without any problem. Am I missing something here?
However, I don’t want any errors just in case - so I wanted to follow Chuck’s advice to delete the relevant share folder and then reinstall the program with his provided x86_64.qpkg file; but that link he provided for the file no longer exists.

Do I need to do anything if everything appears to be working correctly? - Should I just hold out until the next official update, or is there some critical functionality I’ve missed that this error message points out?

I did this
On Qnap Dashboard
1 opened Control Panel
2 opened shared folder
3 selected and removed plexdata
4 reinstalled Plex over the top of existing

In PMS 1.19.5 -> 1.20.1 , the installer still attempts to create the PlexData share if it does not already exist. This will change in PMS 1.20.2. It will no longer attempt to create it. This circumvents the problem in the various QTS firmware. My research seems to indicate a problem with how they manage the folder definition config file(s) in QCLI. I am working with them to fully identify and resolve.

My links for the developer packages have expired. If anyone wants the updated plex.sh (the one which will be in 1.20.22), I will gladly provide it.

I would like to thank you for what you have created. I use mine frequently. I am patiently waiting on the sidelines for a resolution. PMS still runs fine that I can see.

I just performed the update to 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9 on my QNAP TVS-871 running 4.4.3.1400. Got the error message for the PlexData share as described above.

PMS seemed to be working fine nonetheless, streaming, syncing etc. but new movies I added are not found nor are they matched.

Hence I went ahead and checked for the shared folders. As I could not edit the properties (greyed out) of the share, I deleted it and created a new PlexData share with the default options (do I need to change anything here to make it work?).

Now the share is there and visible (also in Qfile) but scanning the library still heeds no new results. What do I need to do to make it work again? I already restarted the server itself as well as PMS. There is only an admin user on the server and it hast read/write rights.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Fixed it. Did another install of Plex on top and now it works again!

Having recreated the shared folder, there is nothing you need to do.
The next time PMS restarts, it will place an entry in there for you.

It will be named Plex Media Server and, when you click it, it will take you into the QPKG storage area in PMS where your metadata is.

This might be interesting reading.

I keep getting the same same error as everyone else in this thread.

Everything appears to be working fine though, streaming, adding new files to library, etc.

Plex Data Share Error

@nSchmidt7

Ignore the error.

  1. Delete the PlexData share which exists in Control Panel - Shared Folders if it exists.
  2. Create it again where you want it.
  3. Restart Plex.

In PMS 1.20.2, I’ve been forced to change how this works. There are too many underlying qcli_sharedfolder XML problems in QTS 4.4 (it’s Broken)

Therefore, if you create the share yourself, I’ll use it.
If it doesn’t exist, there will be no complaints.

Thanks Chuck, that seems to have worked.

I deleted the PlexData shared folder, restarted Plex, it re-created the shared folder on it’s own and the error doesn’t appear to happen anymore.
