Could not create PlexData share

Thank you so much!!!

In your mentioned Link Q28 i found my answer:

Using the Control Panel and there the Shared Libraries, I had a share that was not assigned to a physical volume. The enry was just empty. :pensive:
I deleted that share!!!
Back in File Station I deleted all the directories that i have previously created
Then inside the Folder Public I created a new Folder (case sensitive: PlexData)
I gave him in the FileStation RW rights for everyone
Stopped Plex
Started Plex
→ No more Error!!!

Just now I am looking how to manually ask Plex to do an initial Backup etc. into that Folder…
Inside Plex General Settings / Planned Tasks the following is configured:
Sicherungsverzeichnis (I guess in english it is Backup Directory)
/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases

In addition i went back to the Control Panel / Shared Folders and selected there PlexData. Then again I set RW rights for all users.

Maybe the new Folder will be filled automatically during this week…

Thank you so much for your support!!!

If you want to perform a FULL BACKUP of all your metadata (not just the Plex database which Plex does),

Use the procedure I show in the FAQ.

Note: Make certain PMS is stopped when you do this because it will backup the database at the same time.

Here is the thing:
the Folder is empty.
ther is no folder structure like in your screenshot:

live
Plex Media Server
Cache
Codecs
Crash Reports

etc etc

Show me please?

(both Shared Folders where the PlexData share is defined and what you see when you open it in FileStation)

Um.
I got the Update recommendation for 1.20.1.3252 today, one month after the error was reported. Why did I even get this update, if it is broken?

What have this update done to my system? What must I do to correct it, if anything?

The update is not “broken”.

In 1.20.2, which Engineering is working on now, the PlexData share will be completely silent unless you wish to use it.

To clear this “error” message you’re seeing, which is why I changed it for 1.20.2, is to

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Control Panel - Shared Folders
  3. Remove PlexData (and the contents – which is just a symbolic link)
  4. Create the share anywhere you like. Assign any access permissions you wish but remember this is intended for your use only and not for others who may be logging into the machine.
  5. Start PMS

After 1.20.2 is released, you can again remove the PlexData share again.

I recommend reading the FAQ. This is what you get or will be giving up if PlexData is removed.

I also performed the update to 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9 on my QNAP TVS-471 running 4.4.3.1400. Got the error message for the PlexData share as described above.

Followed directions in forum to fix:

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Control Panel - Shared Folders
  3. Remove PlexData
  4. Create new share on DataVol1
  5. Start PMS

Everything loaded fine with no errors. However, as PrometheanFire mentioned above, library scanning just isn’t working and metadata is not loading for new files. I have tried to manually match and in Search Options “Agent” and Language" drop-downs just say loading.

I have also noticed that in PMS settings I’m now getting the error “Server settings are unavailable” when I select any of the options (general, agents, network…)

I have since tried to update 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9 on top of my current install as that seemed to work for PrometheanFire but it is not working for me.

Everything else works fine and I can still access files and watch media. Just no server options and no metadata.

Any ideas?

PLEASE create a new thread for PMS-related problems.

PlexData is a diagnostic packing-only add-on. It has nothing to do with the operation of PMS itself.

Feel free to ping me directly from these new threads so issues can be properly diagnosed and resolved.

I’m trying my best to read and understand this thread.

I’m currently running PMSLibShare 0.1 and Plex 1.19.5 on a QNAPTS-251+ v4.4.3.1400

I cannot install 1.20.1.3252 manually, but no error appears in the System Log.

Googling for “PlexMediaServer-1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9-x86_64” brought me to this thread.

Am I supposed to stop+remove PMSLibShare and then reinstall the update? Or just wait until 1.20.2?

Please advise.

Please explain “I cannot install 1.20.1.3252 manually”

Does the package fail to install

-or-

Are you unable to open and access the server after QPKG installation?

Even though PMSLibShare shows as active in the AppCenter, it’s not running
And if you uninstall it, the Plexshare will remain intact

Does this help? 1.20 just does not get past the install button. 1.19 stays running. There is nothing in the system logs afterwards.

Yes! Great help!

Try downloading with a different browser.

That message is displayed when the QPKG file is incomplete or corrupt.

App Center extracts the QPKG into its parts.
When complete, it checks and then starts the installation.

This failed in either the extraction or the validation check step

This is what I get from PlexMediaServer-1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9-x86_64.qpkg

Is there any advantage on putting this shared PlexData folder on an SSD? How big would this folder typically get?
