Is this a Windows Server OS ? Or Windows 10?

You can try a repair through Add or Remove programs

You can also try uninstalling Plex Media Server through Add or Remove Programs and then get a fresh download from plex.tv/downloads and install - but please double check that there are no Plex processes running (other than the Plex Update Service.exe) when checking Windows Task Manager

If that does not help - would need then to get PML log file (by running SysInternals Process Monitor) when launching Plex Media Server

It’s windows server 2019 OS

I will work on the further troubleshooting steps today. Thanks

If not obvious - suggest using Process Monitor - Windows Sysinternals | Microsoft Docs

I will
Have to look into why and how to get around that. I did try uninstalling and re-installing plex and it didn’t fix the issue.

I have found the fix for this issue, at least regarding Hauppauge tuners I’ve tried, in case anyone following this thread is still suffering.

And the fix would be…?

While doing your channels scan, you’ll see something like HTTP GET /device/…/scanners in your debug log
If you open that URL In your browser, you can find a reference to an .ini file corresponding to the channel package you are trying to scan.
This .ini file can then be found in:
\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Tuner\Shared\scanners\dvbc[or what type of tuner you have]\transponders
or on linux:
./usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Tuner/Shared/scanners/dvbc/transponders/

When you open up said ini file, you can then enter the frequency, QAM modulation information etc.
After editing this file (or in my case, I created another file for a missing provider for my country), you should simply be able to then select the newly created (or edited) channel scan, and it should perform the scan using the newly edited parameters.

For me this provided me with 14 channels found → 160 channels found.

Same error here as well. Works directly after restart,. shortly after no more with error: “Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna.”
Been like this for a year now. no fix in sight :frowning:

The “Win32 Error: 5 Access is denied.” error appears to be a new issue when launching Plex via a scheduled task. I had a workaround that checked if the tuner service was running and restarted plex if it was not. It was working well, as a workaround, until this issue started. If I start plex manually or via script it works fine but I get this error any time I start Plex via a scheduled task.

Now I have no way to ensure the tuner service is running.

PLEX DEVs PLEASE FIX THE TUNER SERVICE!!!

Anyone tried the new version? Any better results, or same issues? Looks like a bit of an overhaul…

We’ve rebuilt the DVR setup flow to make it easier and simpler than ever. We now support multiple lineups (and/or countries, across one or multiple tuners) giving you easy access to whatever over-the-air signals your antennas pick up, all in one guide.

interesting… my issue was that “scan channels” was doing nothing, just sitting there laughing at me.

opened the “transponders” folder and there were many different .ini files. I moved all but 1 out and it now appeared to actually scan (although not find anything).

This:
[SATTYPE]
1=4000
2=DVB-T/T2 Europe

[DVB]
0=174
1=177333,7
2=177500,7
3=177667,7
currently means nothing to me. Do you have any info on what is needed in this file please. I am UK based and would be using the Sutton Colfield transmitter for DVT/DVT-2 broadcasts

OK, after a bit of playing…

so the .ini files contain all the different countries frequencies etc, but it only worked for me with 4000.ini in there (no other .ini files, i moved them into a backup folder) which was the whole of Europe (which included my local frequencies). I started this, it got so far through and stopped by giving me an error.

I tried with just me local frequency file (4634.ini), but this didn’t appear to scan.

I copied the contents of my local into the 4000.ini and managed to set it going, it then worked perfectly and I was able to download the guide, match the channels and start watching TV.

Hopefully this helps somebody, the total contents of my 4000.ini file are as follows: (yes i had to remove the 0= also)
[SATTYPE]
1=4000
2=DVB-T/T2 Europe

I have the same problem. I get the “Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna” message.
When I restart the Plex server, everything works good for some time (sometimes even days) before it happens again.

I am using the Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD tuner.

Just now tried to install the latest drivers from Hauppauge, will report back if it fixed anything.

It is next day and I am still encountering the same issue, even with the new TV card drivers.

Console reads this while loading the channel:

Why is the IP the 192.168.1.1? That’s my router btw.

I’m using a WinTV HVR-950 BDA Tuner, which is a Community Supported Tuner, but have never gotten it to work.

In the UI, I see this message:
Playback Error
Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna.

So I had a Plex server working perfectly with live TV, but it was 5+ years old. Built a new one this weekend, and live TV works VERY poorly. I see the same basic log as this with the “Error obtaining device status.” messages all over the logs. It’s like it works the first time, and then after that, it’s dead until I restart the server.

VERY frustrating, since it was working so well previously… :frowning:
