Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna

See attached logs.
Server ver: 1.23.5.4862

Tunes first channel. Starts failing to tune at 4:08, but TunerService is still running, so some things still tune. By 4:09 the TunerService has disappeared.

Updated to Plex server version 1.23.6.4881 tonight in Windows, and now I can’t tune anything. Verified strong signal. Channels play in other software. See attached, one with std logging, the 2nd one with verbose enabled. Clean server start with tuning failures at 8:19 and 8:20 in these short logs.

Ed: Did a Refresh EPG, restarted the server, and it magically started tuning. Still fails eventually.

Bonjour,

Just updated myself and have the exact issue.

HDHomeRun CONNECT was working perfectly fine with Plex right up until this update.

Just did a re-scan of available channels and now I’m able to watch live TV again.

Just want to reiterate that I still see the behavior below
The recent update broke all tuning, but once I got that working, I still lose the tuner very quickly if I change channels per this log.

See attached verbose logs with server ver. 1.23.6.4881.
First couple of tunes are successful, but then it stops tuning altogether. Same as prior version.

Just wanted to report similar issue. I installed the latest version 1.23.6.4881 on top of 1.23.5.4862. The scheduled recording did not record as it reported the channel couldn’t be tuned. Confirmed within HDHomeRun’s settings that no tuners were in use, I tried to launch one of the channels in the Guide and it reported the same error.

Then I reinstalled the older version 1.23.5.4862 and the problem did not go away until I did, as others have suggested, to rescan all the channels within PMS’s Live & DVR settings, and then the channels came back. Luckily, none of the previously scheduled recordings were deleted, or it would have been painful to re-do all of them.

had the same issue as everyone else, installed 1.23.6.4881 and tuner broke but a day later, it seems to be working
 :man_shrugging:

Refreshing the guide fixed it for me FYI

Same issue here, having to delete and recreate the DVR to get it to tune channels - any actual fix for this?

Thanks

I’ve deleted the DVR, recreated, etc. Still seeing my WinTV-QuadHD stop tuning after just a few tunes. Can anyone at Plex look at this log?

I to am having the same issue as everyone here, dose seem to be either after one Long session, or after a few tunes, this will come up, if i restart plex media server its fine again untill used lol!

can i just confirm with everyone, else is setup?

im using unraid with hangauge quad hd and Nvidia 1080 as hardware decoding, thought it might help to throw that in there incase there is any relation or if its just simply a plex problem

well not the greatest cord cutting experience right of the bat
but im some what happy now.

I can also confirm that the above fix, rolling back and I just straight up deleting the DVR completely and started again fixed the problem for me,

interestingly they seem to have changed something on the new version of plex server that caused it to play interlaced for almost every one of my devices

happy to say that I was actually pretty deep it making custom profiles to try and force it to de-interlace when I found post, and well yeah, two birds with one stone
 Job done!!

Scratch that. It probably lasted the longest yet but where back to not tuning.

If anyone from plex is browsing, please please please look in to this!

We’ve just got rid of sky, cut the cord, and my partner isn’t gunna be happy if she can’t watch TV while I’m away.

Did a lot of convincing to get her to let me do this :joy::joy::joy:

I can see the Plex Tuner Server.exe process crashing with an Access Violation windows error 0xc0000005

Jul 31, 2021 13:50:15.787 [20980] DEBUG - Jobs: 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Tuner Service.exe' exit code for process 11872 is -1073741819 ()

We will need to see if we can reproduce the problem

It has been a while since that crash - but could you see if there a file still within %TEMP% that was generated then for the crash - it may have a dmp filename extension

The filename (without the extension) would be something like
8792bddf-d3b5-486c-b8cf-04f912fbab00

This is just an example

Suggest you run with the latest beta and reproduce with debug logging enabled beforehand and then look after such failure - look into these paths for dmp files and get these zipped with logs zip

and exact model and firmware and driver versions installed

Ok, so I reproduced this morning using server version 1.24.1.4931
I’m using a Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD with driver version 1.59.39012.0

Attached is the log showing tuning failures and repeated crashes of Plex Tuner Service.exe. Additionally, here are three DMP files from the crashes zipped up as well.

Thanks!!

I JUST upgraded to this same version (1.24.1.4931) about an hour ago, and I had the same issue. Al I did was go in and re-scan channels, problem resolved.

This is running on Unbuntu 20.04 with WinTV-quadHD. Not quite sure what the update did to the TV config, but this needs to be resolved for future updates.

I don’t think this has anything to do with an update, per se. I installed clean on new hardware and started having all these tuning issues. I’ve deleted my DVR, re-added, rescanned, etc., and my tuner is still very unreliable. :frowning:

I set up Plex on version 1.23.5.4862 and added an Hauppauge WinTV Dual Tuner. All working well.

Unfortunately, for both versions 1.23.6.4881 & 1.24.0.4930, I have encountered the “Could not tune channel” issue and have had to roll back twice now, back to 1.23.5.4862.

Is it always bound to be necessary to retune or faff about getting this to work when updating the server version, or should I just stick with version 1.23.5.4862?
