Couple Questions: Rating Passwords and Removing Extra Content

Hope this is the right forum, since it applies to both my server as well as the players we use didn’t know where to put it. I run the server on my Windows 10 PC, and my family watches on the PC, our smart TV, and our Kindle. I don’t share with anyone outside the household. I don’t have Plex Pass

  1. Is there a way to require a password for certain movie/show ratings? With our cable, we can password restrict certain actions such as purchasing content or watching on demand movies/shows with certain ratings. Any way to do this with Plex? The kids see all the movies and can just click around with the way things are now. I read about doing it for a client, but since we share the clients I don’t want to restrict it this way.

  2. Since Plex added all the new movies and stuff, when I open the Kindle app there’s all the random movies available and I have to click around every time to find my library. Is there a way to remove all this? I only want to see the stuff on my server. I’ve poked around in the settings but have not yet been successful with this.

Thank you! Didn’t know about Plex Home but that looks like what I need! I’m at work so can’t open the second link, but will give that a shot tonight. Also looks like I can restrict my kids Home accounts to remove web content, etc.? That will help simplify everything so they can just see the movies and shows for them.

Perfect! With Managed Users, will it just automatically push next time we open the app on the TV or Kindle? Will it default to one user or another each time, or do you select each time you open it (like Netflix does)?

And one more question! I see the “Allow Sync and Download” option for users. Without a Plex Pass, is this irrelevant?

Not sure what you mean here.

Each Plex client has a preference which the admin user must set.
‘Automatic Logon’. If activated, the user who was used last time is automatically logged on.
If not, then the list of users is displayed.

(You should protect your admin account with a PIN).

Yes. Sync is a Plex Pass feature.

Sorry, I just meant do I need to update the client or anything for the profiles to show up? Or does it just auto sync?

Perfect! I’ll turn the auto logon off then. And I set that from the web/PC server app? Sorry, I don’t mess with the settings much as I’m always afraid I’ll break something. Does the server list out the different client devices, is that where I find that option?

check out this article for an example ‘home’ setup

please note that there are 2 kinds of ‘home’ users;

  • managed home users (these are sub profiles of the admin account/email) for use inside your physical home (users do not have their own plex account)
  • unmanaged home users (these users have their OWN plex account, and they will have their own access to plex’s free ad supported movies/tv/etc).

You don’t need to do anything. Just make sure the clients have internet access.

This kind of home user is only possible with Plex pass.
