Hey everyone.
I have a couple of multi-disc music albums and organise them similar to tv shows and their seasons (“disc” instead of “season”, “folder.jpg” instead of “poster.jpg”). But the cover art for those albums will simply not show up.
So this is roughly what tv shows are supposed to look like, right? I can either choose to have a poster per season or one for the whole tv show.
/tvshow-name
…/season1
…/season2
…poster.xyz
For a multi-disc album I would expect that to work too. But it doesn’t. Plex seems to expect every “disc” folder to contain an album cover (which I don’t want to do). Is there something I missed or is it simply that inconsistent?

It should work like that, yes.
Maybe you should tell which client you are using and how your file and folder names are actually looking.
Here is how it works for me:
(shameless copy & paste of a previous post of mine)
You can also supply your own artist photos, artist backdrops and album backdrops.
This however requires that your music files are organised in a folder structure like this:
Music /
Albumartistname /
artist-poster.jpg <--- a photo of the artist
artist-background.jpg <--- a background/wallpaper particular to the artist
Albumartistname - Albumtitle /
cover.jpg <--- album cover
background.jpg <--- album background/wallpaper [if not present, inherited from the 'albumartist']
Disc 1 /
1. Trackartist - Tracktitle.mp3
1. Trackartist - Tracktitle.txt
2. Trackartist - Tracktitle.mp3
2. Trackartist - Tracktitle.lrc
Disc 2 /
1. Trackartist - Tracktitle.mp3
2. Trackartist - Tracktitle.mp3
...
The graphic files can be in jpg, png, or tbn format. For all filenames there are a few alternative names which can also be used.
The txt files can contain the song lyrics in plain text format.
The lrc files can contain the ‘timed’ song lyrics.
Thanks for the info …
So I’m runnning Plex server 1.3.2.3112 on a Synology NAS and client version 2.12.3 …
One example album looks like that:
Amy Winehouse > Back to Black [Deluxe Edition] > disc 1 > 01 - Rehab.mp3 (etc.)
Amy Winehouse > Back to Black [Deluxe Edition] > disc 2 > 01 - Valerie.mp3 (etc.)
Amy Winehouse > Back to Black [Deluxe Edition] > folder.jpg
… and … that doesn’t work or show the cover. I even tried tried that:
Amy Winehouse > Amy Winehouse - Back to Black [Deluxe Edition] > disc 1 > 01 - Rehab.mp3 (etc.)
Amy Winehouse > Amy Winehouse - Back to Black [Deluxe Edition] > disc 2 > 01 - Valerie.mp3 (etc.)
Amy Winehouse > Amy Winehouse - Back to Black [Deluxe Edition] > folder.jpg
… that didn’t work either though.
Try moving the folder.jpg into the Disc 1
subfolder.
Afterwards, it may still take a Refresh or even a Plex Dance (for music leave out step 4) for Plex to pick it up.
Oh, wow … thanks for the quick reply. That actually works. Weird behaviour but it works
(maybe this little inconsistency gets fixed one day)
