I think I’m using the latest (my test flight seems strange after the recent changes) and I’m still seeing the UI update so slowly when I move from one item to the next.
Also, there doesn’t appear to be any frame previews when I am scrubbing through the video timeline.
no preview thumbnails while scrubbing and playback skips and starts automatically while moving around the timeline
UI updates with an unacceptable multi-second delay while moving between posters in the home page (current app updates almost instantly)
Subtitle styling still broken and unreadable (thin font with no border, bold, or shadow), have yet to check if formatting tags are working (italics, {/an8} etc…)
STILL NOT POSSIBLE TO START PLAYBACK PRESSING THE PLAY BUTTON ON THE REMOTE
Can’t double tap the remote to change aspect ratio to fullscreen on compatible media
Watch Together & HEVC encoding were practically the only useful additional features and now Watch Together is killed off with apparently Zero plans to even implement it into the “Plex Experience”. Not to mention the fact that Downloads were never fixed.
I have a server side problem with downloads wherein the server will only transcode one thing at a time and then stop. It’s been reported but not fixed yet.
My 2 cents… Plex needs to bring back the old app under the old “Plex” name, and release this new “Experience” app as a dedicated / experimental “video” app, similar to what they did with PlexAmp. Maybe call it something like PlexVue or PlexPix, etc. That way people who are interested in the “new experience” can play around with it as Plex continues to improve it. It would be similar to the way they rolled out PlexAmp. They could take all the time they need to get it right.
They seem to be intent on breaking out the different media functions (music, photos, video) into different apps. I can understand this, since there are certain features that a dedicated music (or photo, or video) app might have, that an overall “media” app couldn’t have without adding a lot of bloat. I personally am a fan of PlexAmp when I’m in my car, but I like the normal Plex app to listen to music on my TV setup when I’m home.
Maybe the “legacy” app will never have some of the features that the “new experience” eventually will, but I’m OK with that. Maybe a year or two down the road, when I see people raving about the new experience app (PlexVue?), I might switch. It was all the love people were throwing at PlexAmp that made me want to try it. But why kill a mature “all-in-one” product that people like, that is more or less bug-free. It makes no sense. BTW, yes, I understand that AppleTV video playback is a problem for some and might still need to be fixed. Fortunately for me, I don’t have any 4K, HDR, Dolby Atmos content. For people who do, sounds like Infuse is a nice work-around.
I’m glad I was on these forums before they pushed out the new app. I had enough time to disable automatic updates on my iPhone and iPad before I got hit with the new experience virus. Kinda sucks though that I had to turn off all updates because of this.
While I was able to stop downloads on most of my own devices the servers I set up for others were not so lucky and here I am having to jump through hoops trying to get their old experience back. Shame on Plex for not thinking this through. P.S. Also just love that I have to cripple all my devices for the sake of retaining a functional version of Plex.
Has anybody from Plex commented recently on how bug ridden and poorly received the new app is, and what they are going to do to fix the many problems? There are a lot of angry users, and it seems like it’s just “crickets chirping” from Plex…
You must be newish to Plex lol…unfortunately they will rarely (if ever) comment on the reception of their product by the public. It’s sort of “The Plex Way” of doing things.
Unfortunately it’s a terribly user-unfriendly experience.
anyone else experiencing an issue when using HomePods with the new app on Apple TV? it worked fine on 2025.8.2 and in the old app.
When playing HEVC videos it always transcode in any version above 2025.8.2.
it worked find in that version and in the old app. If I connect my AirPods or play through my tv speakers it’s fine. But it seems to have an issue with Stereo HomePods.
I’ve somehow managed to break my test flight version of the app, including v16, pretty comprehensively.
I tried to filter my TV library on “unwatched”, but all that gave me was a screen of blank spaces where the posters should be. Unfortunately, the filter controls don’t load either, so now I can’t unfilter the library.
I’ve tried installing earlier builds, but either they hang at the library selection screen, or they load, but the TV library is already (brokenly) filtered on unwatched, resulting in the blank posters and no filter controls.
So where I’m at right now is a TVOS preview app where I can only access my TV library via “recommended” and no other way.
Any suggestions how to reset the preview app back to normal?
