Custom sorting in collections not working

Hi, I’m wondering if anyone has figured out a work around, or if anyone know if there is a fix coming soon?
I’m creating a custom list in one of my collections, but as soon as I’ve gone out, and I go back in, the custom order is randomly messed up, with some movie titles appearing in different spots.
I’ve re-ordered them about a dozen times now, and every time I go back in, it’s all changed.

What version of PMS do you have installed on your setup?
IIRC, this was supposed to be fixed with PMS 1.25.7.5604

Yes, that the version I have, 1.25.7.5604.

Actually, just updated to version 1.25.8.5663.
I’ll give it another go, and see if it’s fixed in this update.

Yeah, it’s still doing it. Reordered them, closed it up, came back a little while later and everything has moved again.

Any ideas if a fix for this is happening?

I must ask, how are you change or arranging the collections. What procedure?

I just use the 3 little dots at the top of the movie poster, and move the titles that way.

This one, Vertical Ellipsis at bottom Right of Title poster, edit filters?

If so, it seems you can save all sorts of orders, by adding another filter.

Then select order, can be Ascending or Descending

Then save.

This is only Available on Smart Collections

No, I’ve never used that method, but I’ll try it after work today, to see if it works. I’ve been using the option to drag titles, it’s 3 lines (sorry, not dots) in the centre top of movie posters.

What client are we talking about? Three lines is a Hamburger menu ≡ , never seen one of those on a Title poster.

Edit tool, Vertical Ellipsis, Radio Button, Play button. Yes seen all of these

Those 3-lines (≡) are only available on regular „non-smart“ collections. The icon will appear if you hover over an item inside such a collection at the top-center of the poster and allow you to drag them around (establishing a custom order).

I stand corrected ≡ Hamburger Menu is indeed on a regular Collection item Poster.

Thanks for pointing that out Tom, never messed with Regular Collections.

The grand daddy of Regular collections

Yes, thanks for that, as I was getting a bit lost in how to respond! Haha!
The James Bond Collection is a good example. I’ve got the movies, but then I’ve also got some TV movies, such as Spymaker and Golden Eye. I’ve put them in the collection AFTER the collection of official movies.
Come back the next day, and it’s re-ordered them back into chronological order.
I have another collection of cult movies, but that resets itself into a seemingly random order!

I would build a Smart Collection and manually add the extra Titles.

Example:

There’s really only two ways of ordering collections I’m aware of:

Smart Collections

Set the order while editing a collection’s filter criteria.

Regular Collections

Edit the collection and set the sort order in its Advanced tab (alphabetic → by sort title, by release date, custom)
Manually re-arranging items in a regular collection should automatically apply a custom order. However there’s been some issues with that in recent releases (1.25.7 was supposed to fix those but I’ve seen a number of posts where users are still having trouble).

SE56’s approach of creating a smart collection based on some tag will give you the extended sorting options of a smart collection while being able to manually decide what’s scope for that collection (not depending on other metadata). Though… keep in mind there’s a number of differences between smart and regular collections when it comes to how they’re displayed in your library.

Thanks Tom, you can also rank Smart or Regular Collections by using the Sort Field to have them appear were you like.

Or like my good friend JuiceWSA

true… but that’s sorting collections (smart or regular) within your library, not their content
