Database sites name shows differently

I have scrubbed several forums for this and can’t find an answer. I have found posts on incorrect episode naming but not show naming.

“TMZ” vs “TMZ on TV”

There is a discrepancy in how the show is named on different sites.

tvguide.com - “TMZ”

thetvdb.com - “TMZ on TV”

imdb.com - “TMZ on TV”

I am using the EyeTV Program Guide to capture the show “TMZ”. EyeTV gets its metadata from tvguide.com

So if I go and fix the match in Plex Media Manager to “TMZ on TV” to get the right info from thetvdb.com, the next episode that is captured by EyeTV gets jammed in the old name “TMZ”.

I’d rather not make a custom mapper. And I would prefer to use the EyeTV Program Guide instead of creating a custom recording where I spell out the name explicitly. There seems to be no way to override the name that EyeTV grabs from tvguide.com.

I think a request to any of the sites to make the name consistent would be rejected. Anyone have any experience with this?

From my research, “TMZ” is the web site, “TMZ on TV” is the show. So Technically tvguide.com is wrong. Then again it is just “TMZ” -> on TV. Ugh.

Can anyone give some guidance? Maybe thetvdb.com can make a redirect type of feature as when you type a name in the search field and it makes suggestions.

Wish that all shows got a GUID from a central location, eh!?

And I am using the scanner I found in the forums without modification:

TIA!

I’ve switched to using date based naming on export and am using the built in Plex Series Scanner.

Now having an issue where my “TMZ” folder is not brought into the media library at all. So no way to “fix incorrect match”.

So I may post in a more general forum if I don’t hear back.

Thanks!
