Debugging setup failures

Yes it is safe to give the ip address. It is only the localhost ip address ie the computer itself which is 127.0.0.1

It is not completing the setup. We have had a few cases like that. Don't know why but in the past cases like that were fixed by changing the default browser and re installing

What browser and version ? Could be old browser issue. Could be some security setting. Could be some browser add-on

You could try to choose different browser as default browser and rerun the install

I have installed the PMS and used it first time with Mozilla as default browser.  Version  31.0             *Tested after uninstalled/installed = Not loading page*
I changed default to Chrome and PMS having same problem.   Version  36.0.1985.125 (Officiell version 283153)          *Tested after uninstalled/installed =  Not loading page*

Also made Explorer default and same there.     Version  10.0.9200.17028             *Tested after uninstalled/installed = Not loading page*

What browser do you recommend as default for PMS before i uninstall/install PMS again ?

should be ok with chrome and IE and firefox ok with NoScript setting removed

See this Plex/Web FAQ

What security software do you have ?  Ad Blockers? Firewalls?

I am only using AVG Internet Security 2013.

I am only using AVG Internet Security 2013.

You could try disabling some of its security settings eg firewall and go through a new install / repair and see what happens. Do it with chrome or IE as default browser

Other thing to check is Control Panel / Show All Items / Internet Options / Advanced / Security / Enable Enhanced Protected Mode

See https://forums.plex.tv/topic/109802-internet-page-error/

By the way - this was the issue with NoScript and Firefox: https://forums.plex.tv/topic/93841-problem-with-plextvweb-via-firefoxnoscript-has-been-solved/

This old post has links to lots of similar issues

And this thread was one of the main topics at one point in time for this very problem: https://forums.plex.tv/topic/92729-getting-error-you-dont-have-any-media-servers-yet-on-initial-install/

Sorry giving you so many links - but there is no easy answer if it is not an add-on security / Ad blocker product or security setting in the browsers

I am using Explorer now as default browser. No addons in it at all. (never been as i never used explorer on this computer)

Disabled AVG totaly. Having absolutly no protection at all.

Uninstalled PMS and installed it again. Clicked away the start PMS at upstart of computer. Restarted computer after that.

Explorer window popping up but thats it.

I am sad to say it but i think i give this up.

PMS could have been the ultimate solution to combine my computer, TV, laptop, phone & tablet.

I just dont think it is ment for anyone to go past this struggle to get a program to work. Or should i say still not working.

If any reall solution comes up i would love to use the program.

one last thing to try.  A clean new install

Terminating all Plex processes

Delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\

and Deleting the registry entry:

Open regedit and navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\

and then install

Hi, i am installing Plex on a new system and i am getting the core component failure message during setup. I have attached the log, any help would be awesome!

The following error is repeated several times in the log file

Aug 10, 2014 15:04:16:866 [3968] WARN - WARNING: Couldn't create directory C:\Users\Media\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins/Framework.bundle/Contents/Resources/Platforms/Shared/Libraries/

Could you check that it exists
C:\Users\Media\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins/Framework.bundle/Contents/Resources/Platforms/Shared/Libraries/

Do you have any non standard settings ? eg symlinks ?

Can you also check permissions for each of the parent folders/subfolders
C:\Users\Media\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins/Framework.bundle/Contents/Resources/Platforms/Shared/

Normally the core component error is resolved by Resetting the System & Framework Bundles - but I am not sure if it is in this case. May be it would. Basically when you reset these bundles they get re-created a fresh when plex media server is restarted. You could try it - but first check permissions etc as in my note above

Awesome, all fixed. First the appdata folder was hidden, so once I got that visible the plex media server folder within that was not shared. I made that shared and reset the bundles and setup completed. Thanks for the help!

Good News

But .. It does not need to be shared. It must be resetting the bundles that fixed it

Were there any permissions issues?

And do you remember if this file existed - before you made any changes

C:\Users\Media\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins/Framework.bundle/Contents/Resources/Platforms/Shared/Libraries/

Sorry - i always like to understand how issues are resolved.

Sorry, i didnt pay close attention. I know there were some permissions issues but it would not allow me to change the permissions past the Plex Media Server folder (which had the little lock icon). Once i i set it to share for everyone the lock went away and i was able to proceed. Its a blur at this point so i may be forgetting something that i did.

I am trying to install Plex Media Server on my Windows 7 computer.  I have installed this on other computers with no problem

I have read through this a few times, I recently updated to windows 8....I hate it, but my pc crashed and I couldn't find my win7 disk, I installed plex and I was getting the core component error I finally got  my server to appear in my server list, however when I go to add folders to it it wont let me says I need to choose a language and when I click on language nothing it there I cannot choose one, anyone else having this problem?I really want to get my plex back up and running

The core component error happens frequently on installs / upgrades where something goes wrong with the install/updates to the plugins/bundles directories. A search for that error text will give you the same advice. It is only very few cases where the standard advice fails and those cases would in the main be users with proxies/extra security 3rd party software etc..

When this happens, symptoms could be : no agents, cannot add library sections

It is so common a problem that there is now a support page for it: Error A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server

Was able to launch installed and watch the files copy and then be removed.

Windows 8.1 x64

Any suggestions?

Appears to be the problem previously thought to be a dependency on having the windows 8 firewall enabled

ExecFirewallExceptions:  Error 0x800706d9: failed trying to find existing app
ExecFirewallExceptions:  Installing firewall exception2 Plex Scripting Host (C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\PlexScriptHost.exe)

But more recently it was discovered as to be caused by .Net components added to the windows 8 system - which already has .Net pre-installed.

Windows Firewall is not running.

So you went through the sties for removing old .Net components and no joy .....

Well the only other suggestion is the standard answer I gave for this before the evidence that .net was the cause .. And that is :

Enable the windows 8 firewall and re run setup
