Debugging setup failures

Thanks for the quick, thorough response but I'm afraid none of the info is any longer relevant.  I've been told by a Plex user in a different thread that  Plex won't play VOB files over my LAN.  That being true, Plex is of no use to me.  Thanks again.

oh well .... the info may help someone else...

you could explore options for you by raising a separate topic for your media issue and plex as the setup issues thread is not the place for discussing vob's and media files

I'm sure the developers made a conscience decision to ignore VOBs.  That's their prerogative and they're not alone.  I remain hopeful that someone will recognize this void in the marketplace and produce a product that will do an outstanding job.  They will have that market almost entirely to themselves.  Thanks for trying to help me.

Hi there, just downloaded and installed Plex on windows 7 computer. Using it to connect to Roku 3. When Installed I got the error attached. Attached are the logs as well. I deleted the system and framework bundle and restarted but the problem still there. Please help

The core component error happens after some installs/upgrades and it is normally fixed by a combination of restarts and repairing the system and framework bundles - as described here

Thanks, i removed the bundles (framework and system), right clicked the plex icon on the bottom right and exited... then select the plex program to restart... same error. Should I just continue that approach or is there is something else I can do? Am I doing something wrong?

did you reboot?

If the error continues - could try a fresh download (in case it was corrupt) and re-install with anti virus disabled and Run As Administrator selected and more repairs and if this persists after reboots, upload fresh set of logs and also zip of the PMS Plugin Logs folder and we can have a look.

Latest I believe

Yeah I did, here is what I just did

  1. I did a machine wide uninstall of plex server
  2. Downloaded a fresh file
  3. disabled Internet Security and installed as Administrator
  4. Same issue came up
  5. So I deleted the systemand framework bundles
  6. exited the program
  7. restarted computer
  8. browser came up with plex but got the following: Please wait a moment while Plex starts.
  9. after 10 minutes I decided to just click the SKIP button as it seemed that it was not going to end
  10. Tried to add a movie... no luck
  11. See attached logs

Really confused... appreciate all your help

Thanks for getting all the logs. I am actually out and about on my iPad so not easy to do searches etc..
Looked at logs. Timeout on agents. Looking at agents log eg lastfm shows it s failing to communicate with the system bundle. Looking at the system bundle log shows it s failing to get to URL 127.0.0.1:32400

The last time we had problems with 127.0.0.1 was when Microsoft brought in
Enable enhanced protected mode
see if it is set. Internet options / security setting I think, needs reboot after unsettling it.
Can you see if you can ping 127.0.0.1 from command line window
You can do some google searching on site:forums.plexapp.com "enhanced protected mode" to find related posts

You should also do Netstat -a -b in command line window but must start Cmd window it in 'run as administrator' and see if you find entry for plex and prt 32400 on 127.0.0.1 as well as 0.0.0.0

You could pipe te output from Netstat to a text file
Also whilst at it do Ipconfig /all

There was also need to add 127.0.0.1 to trusted sites but that ought only affect browser sessions

Thanks Will take a stab at it!

Attached is the snapshot of the ping 127.0.0.1. Not sure about Netstat thing... never done anything like that (kind of a newb)... can you elaborate on what I have to do here?

BTW, I used Chrome for the plex server, could that be the issue? Should I have used Internet Explorer?

The ipconfig /all is just like what you did for the ping. but could be more than a screenful. So best to pipe output to file.

So the cmd window you started for the ping, we need to do it again but with admin rights.

So Start, Run, cmd

when the cmd.exe appears in the Start window, right click on it and click on 'Run As Administrator'

Accept any prompts

When the window starts,

do these commands

ipconfig  /all > c:\ipconfig_2013-12-22a.txt

netstat -a -b > c: etstat_2013-12-22a.txt

The netstat may take a few long seconds for it to complete - could be 20 or more...

It is the netstat -a -b that needs the admin rights

So you have now 2 text files with the information which you can attach to a post here using 'More Reply Options;

But best to leave this until you have checked the other stuff and only if the change I am asking to make re protected mode is needed and problem not resolved:

Control Panel
Click on the > arrow button next to the word Panel in the url/address bar at the top and then select: All Control Panel items

Click on Internet Options

Click on Advanced tab

go down to the security set of options

look for Enable Enhanced Protected Mode

If ticked, untick it and Apply / OK

Reboot

And see if you get the same errors.

Get new set of logs if you do

and netstat and ipconfig output as mentioned above

When the problem arises, try different browsers and see what you get from

http://localhost:32400/web

http://127.0.0.1:32400/web

http://192.168.1.103:32400/web

Hi there,

I attached the 2 files. The 'Enable Enhanced Protected Mode' was already unselected, so did not have to do anything there.

I opened the 3 links in all the browsers but still was unable to add movies.

The netstat shows plex media server was not running

Is it crashing? or did you exit it?

Sorry, here it is

netstat shows we are listening to 32400 on all addresses 0.0.0.0:32400 so should be ok

Are you using any vpn stuff ? or routing through vpn?

It is just some of the errors in the logs are similar to what we had here

https://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/86842-missing-agents-after-fresh-install-in-ubuntu-1204/

That was linux which i thought may be some firewall issues but turned out to be vpn

Could you check that plex media server is permitted through the firewall

I checked the firewall and Plex server was on the allow list. I am using unotelly service (http://www.unotelly.com/unodns/), so that I can watch certain channels outside of the US (I am based in the Caribbean). Could that be an issue with the Plex?

guessing i would say most likely... it was the dns server setting that made me question that.

I would definitely want you to try without it - just in case it is and since we had similar issue in the post i gave you a link for

If it is not that and not the firewall then I will give up and wait for a Ninja or Plex Dev Team to step in

Fair enough, will try without the ip change and let you know... I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. Will keep you posted.

Nope, did not work... I removed the unotelly ip addresses from my computer (but kept them on my router so that I can access us based shows on my roku 3), uninstalled and re-installed the program but same issue. Is there a contact link for a Ninja or plex dev team member?

Hi, Just thought I should send you these files after I removed the vpn ip addresses form the computer (not the router), hope it makes things clearer.
