Desktop Players Download Button Missing, No Download Option

Player Version#: Plex for Mac 1.8.2.1192-89432618

Downloading as part of the new Mac desktop client has been incredibly unreliable, downloads would just stop and I couldn’t resume, got all kinds of “unexpected error” etc. Basically unusable. In an effort to fix this I completely wiped and re-installed Plex for Mac on my machine and now I dont even have the option to download items at all! The queue is available on the left but none of the items show the icon to download (nor is it in the … menu). Screenshot attached. This is driving me insane, any fixes?! Thanks

I just tried downloading the Plex app on my Windows machine and it is also missing the Download option. This makes no sense, the server is latest version (I even re-installed just to check)…

Anyone???

I’m seeing/having the same issue with Plex for Mac on my MacBook Pro and Plex for Windows on my Windows 10 computer.
Plex for Mac is the same version you have (1.8.2.1192-89432618)
Plex for Windows is 1.6.5.1097-3bb9dc68
Server version is Ubuntu 1.19.1.2645

The ability to download shows to my computer is no longer available. The download selection isn’t in the list for a show (same as your screenshot)

Me and my friends have the same problem. It worked some days ago, but than stopped with giving an unknown error. I and another friend then tried to reinstall the app and suddenly we dont get the downloadbutton anymore…

Weird, I had exact same experience where downloads stopped succeeding. They would download the entire file but then report an “unexpected error”. That’s what led me to re-install which got me into this mess.

Something on the Plex side of things?? Someone from the dev team has to have some insight…

I’m having the same issue. Latest PMS (linux) and latest mac desktop client. No option to download. Annoying because I wanted to sync some stuff to watch at work.

Just downloaded the newest version of Plex for Windows after being prompted to update. My download button is also gone now.

I have no solution but wanted to join the “I have the same problem!” Chorus. Sync works in the old Plex Media Player but not in the official app. Was working before. Users have access to sync.

Same problem. Yesterday I was able to download via Plex for Windows, today morning download icon disappeared, and this afternoon I was not able to open the plex app again, only weird popup showed up and that’s it :frowning: image

I feel like Im taking crazy pills. I tried downloading the previous Mac Player 1.8.0.1159-67c4a549 and PMS 1.18.9.2578-513b381af from three weeks ago (when I am certain it was working) and it still didn’t fix it?!

EDIT: to rollback you just have to edit the current download link and replace the version numbers in it with an older version like the ones named above, but again, that didn’t work for me =/

Also having this issue with Mac and Windows Clients. Everything is up to date, have tried almost everything. Glad to have found a thread that makes me feel a little less crazy. Started off with getting unexpected errors when trying to download, then as I continued to troubleshoot the buttons disappeared entirely.

I’ve described my own situation abou this issue, maybe with some extra details, so if we all work together we can narrow down the situation:

(which is confusing as hell since that GitHub repo is for PMP, not Plex. Ugh they made this convoluted…)

Same here - download option missing in Plex for Windows.

As per my thread I think this is limited to Home users as oppose to shared libraries. Can others test?

My issue started out as a shared user receiving an unknown error downloading, then led to the download button disappearing.

OK, to all people in this thread:
Shut down your server(s) for a few seconds.
If you are using Windows, don’t ‘power off’ or ‘hibernate’ Windows, but use ‘Restart’.

Start up your server(s).
Wait a bit, then restart your clients as well.

Your server and clients need internet connectivity during the restart!

It looks like PMS updated yesterday to 1.19.2.2702 and this seems to have fixed things even though the release notes make no mention Plex Media Server

Hope its solved for others…
