No downloads button in Windows app with Plex Pass

Hello,
I’ve purchased a Plex Pass yesterday in order to have the option to download files, I’ve installed the latest version of the Windows app (1.39.1.2763-300bb607) and there is no option to download: the ‘download’ option doesn’t appear in the menus and there is no download button.
I’ve also tried on my: 1. Android phone with the latest version of the app (8.28.0.30077) and it’s the same issue, 2. On my iPad (v 7.27) and again no ‘download’ option appears, 3. With the web version, with again - the same issue (but I understand the web version is not supposed to support downloads).
The files I’d like to download are in a shared folder but the friend who owns the server has given me download permissions.

Note I am actually interested only in making it work on the PC (either with the app or the web version), so solving it on the phone/iPad will not help me, I’ve just mentioned the fact it doesn’t work there for the additional info.
I’ve only purchased Plex Pass for this reason, I’d be glad for support on the issue.

Thank you.

Let your friend double-check the download option is properly enabled, then sign out from the app, restart it and sign back in to make sure there’s no stuck/cached information getting in the way.

Hi, thanks for the reply - I already signed out from the app and signed in several times. I also tried installing it on two different computers (Windows) and it’s the same behaviour in both of them. I also tried installing on a Mac computer but there I had a different issue - the app didn’t open at all (it just crushes immediately when I try opening it, but it should be noted it’s an old Mac with an old operating system so that might be the problem).

One thing that did work but is not helpful to me: on my iPad app in the ‘settings’ under ‘Downloads’, ‘Enable new downloads’ is checked off by default. I tried changing it and after I changed it (= It’s not longer checked off, and ‘Downloads’ turns into ‘Sync’) the download button appeared. Which is just weird behavior altogether. Also doing the same thing in the Android app on my phone doesn’t work, only on the iPad. So this means I do have downloads permissions. This doesn’t help me as I don’t want to download to my iPad but to my computer.
On the Windows app there is no ‘Downloads’ option in the setting at all, so I can’t try it there.

(If there’s a way to transfer the files from the iPad to the computer after the download I guess it would be a workaround but I’m not aware of any option to do that, is there one?)

Still trying to wrap my head around this.
This is about media from your own server or a shared library? In case it’s from a shared library… have your friends granted you permission to download stuff from their libraries within Plex?

What’s really throwing me off is that you see the sync option but not downloads (which kind of makes the above question obsolete… but still)

Yes, indeed this is from a shared library and my friend has granted me permission to download. And as you wrote, I do have a validation that this is not an issue of permission because the sync option in the iPad does work (to be clear I’m not really familiar with the sync option because I’m new to Plex, I just assume that the fact a down-arrow button appears when I switch to sync means it is working).
And also I agree this is weird and extremely frustrating - it’s just as though the downloads feature is completely missing so I have no idea how to address this issue (other than just cancel my Plex Pass and look for other solutions).

Can you double-check you experience the same in the mobile apps for Android / iOS?

I checked again, the behavior is I already wrote:
Android - ‘download’ doesn’t appear in the menus and the download (down-arrow) button is missing. When I switch ‘Enable new downloads’ off it doesn’t change.
iOS (iPad) - by default ‘download’ doesn’t appear in the menus and the download (down-arrow) button is missing, when I switch off ‘Enable new downloads’ the button appears.
Mac - the Plex app doesn’t run at all, it crushes immediately.

Note that under ‘Enable new downloads’ in the Downloads section of the Settings it says ‘Enable to get access to the new Downloads feature that will replace Sync in a future version of Plex’. That’s both in Android and iOS. So it’s as though the app itself doesn’t acknowledge that the Downloads feature is yet available.
In the app for Windows there is nothing in the Setting referencing Downloads.

I’ve asked Plex about this and they’re currently looking into it.

have the same issue

Any update on this? I’m having the same issue. Very close to just cancelling my Plex Pass altogether.

I received no update on this.
I will cancel my Plex Pass, I have no need for it without the downloads option.

I too have the same issue. Just purchased plexpass for 1 year and there is NO DOWNLOAD option…I want my money back.

I also have the same problem but only did a month as a trial. Transferred from Playon as they are now on a subscription and the original program no longer works. Hope I can get something to work

Seeing similar behavior. However, I can download via the iOS app, but not the Windows app or via any browser. Sorry, no Android to check with. Looking forward to a solution!

I’m having the same problem. I tested this on Windows, Mac and Android using the latest Plex app. The download button only appears on the Android app. The media server is running in a Docker container on the latest version of TrueNAS Scale. I already tried restarting the Docker container multiple times, but the download button on the desktop apps is still hidden.

Same Problem here. I purchased a lifetime Pass. There is no download button. Not in the browser version, not on the PC App. I Only get the download option on the Iphone. I own the server.
On the browser-web-version I can press the three dots an press on the pop up menu download, but this will download a file to the computer not inside the plex app.

Please find a quick fix for this issue Plex!

I have the same issue. I haven’t the download option in both Mac and Windows apps.
Any idea on how to fix it?
