Different images when sorting library

Server Version#:1.42.2.10156

Hello,

I have read everything about Plex showing background art rather than the poster art but could not find the solution to my issue.

I have been using Plex for over 10 years now and I have never had this issue. Recently when I sort by Title or Release Date it will show a screen capture “Background image” rather than the Poster Art. If I sort it by any other criteria such as date released or duration etc. it will show that intended Poster Art.

I know that you can change around the Agents to put them in order to show artwork from different sites, but why is it doing different images for different sort criteria? I would like it to always show the Poster Art. If I click on the pencil to edit the item, the poster art is checked.

Thank you for your assistance.

In which app are you experiencing this (platform and version)?

It is Plex Server Version#:1.42.2.10156. It is on a Synology NAS. If I open Plex Server or any of my web versions of the Plex Web Version 4.147.1 or even on Android App it does the same thing so it must be the server where this is originating.

Ok, so it’s not specific to a certain client but you’re seeing it all of them (web app, Android mobile…).

Do you see this for specific library types or all of them (e.g. movies, shows, music)?
Also… what agent do you have set for the library (libraries) in question (from the library context menu: > Manage Library > Edit...Advanced > Agent)?

Edit: I cannot reproduce this on my setup (nor have I seen anybody else raising this.

It is only for movies. The Agent is Plex Movie. Like I said, it is very odd. I have never seen this in the 10 plus years that I have been using Plex. I also just tried it with Chrome and MS Edge. Same results. I have tried going in via plex.tv and also directly using 192.168….. with the same results. The only place where it is showing properly is via the Android App. I am thinking that there must be some sort of way to edit the display options for the sort method. It is completely fine for all other sort methods except Title and Date Added.

Thank you

Which one is it?

It is working fine on the Android App. I thought I had checked that before because I was testing every method I could think of. Sorry for the confusion.

Does it make a difference if you’re using the hosted web app or the local version (http://[Syno IP address]:32400/web)?

Nope. “Same results. I have tried going in via plex.tv and also directly using 192.168….. with the same results.”

The issue you seem to have is that Plex is unable to access the poster images quickly enough, so it falls back to the screen capture it creates when you add a Movie to your library.

That can also be caused by a slow network connection. Try rebooting your Modem/Router and everything connected to it.

Then, Optimise Database in Plex Settings > Server > Troubleshooting, followed by Clean Bundles.

You will also need to be a little patient as Plex also needs to clear/repopulate the various caches.

It would also pay you to run Data Scrubbing on your NAS. That should help clean up the file system on your NAS and allow Plex to access the files a little more quickly.

Open Storage Manager > Storage > Storage Pool 1 and click on the Run Now button under Data Scrubbing.

If you don’t see that button, then click on Schedule Data Scrubbing and set up a time etc. to run Data Scrubbing.

Note: Data Scrubbing will slow things down a little, which depending on your NAS, drive sizes, etc. may take a long time to complete.

The issue there is that it is only doing this when sorting my titles by Title and Date Added. All other sort parameters such as Year, Critic Rating etc. always show the correct cover art. All devices are connected via cat 5e cable, GT-AX11000 router and Netgear GB switch.

Looking at it now, it seems to be zoomed in pictures of the covers shown in a landscape orientation. Kind of like if you hold down the ctrl key and spin the mouse wheel. Why is it in landscape display for just these two sort options? Hmmm
