The first “episodes” of this show were Specials that aired in 2023. The first episode of “Season 1” aired in 2024. So the show started in 2023.
Forward to the Metadata team.
We’ll find out what
they have to fix it
Agree this is weird ?
If the previews (specials) start in 2023, but S01E01 airs in 2024, when does the series actually start ?
I’d be willing to bet it will be 2024. ![]()
BBC, Disney+ , TMDB, EIDR all count the Disney launch as 2024 even with the 2023 specials. Also TVDB now also counts it as 2024.
For reference, TMDB shows it as
Doctor Who - Start Date : 2024
TVDB shows it as
Doctor Who (2023) - Start Date - 2024
very similar to how they do Battlestar Galactica for example
even though the start date is 2005, cuz they added the miniseries
I think TVDB will need to edit their record
They shouldn’t have to, the start date is still valid and Battlestar loads fine in plex this way, no issues. Like I said I would bet you $1000 that the metadata team will discover that somehow Plex is grabbing some dead TVDB ID and because its smaller than the real one, its causing episode titling errors where as TMDB has one ID only and Plex has one ID only and they align.
This is one those problems (metadata) that makes quantum mechanics trivial.
LOL absolutely. Thank you for forwarding. The only reason I know about this dead TVDB thats attached is that I use Plex-Meta-Manager (Kometa now) and when it tries to add an overlay it is telling me that 488 dead TVDB is still there from Plex specifically. lol. So thats why I started out that way. Then I did the manual episode ordering and tied it directly to TVDB. ![]()
Can you share that full dead ID?
I’ll put it in the ticket.
Correct One per TVDB :::: TVDB 449991
Incorrect one per the Kometa program and confirmed as non-existent on TVDB : 448305.
The key is that both of those are popping for the Doctor Who new reboot specifically in Plex.
This is the
one?
if gun means non-existent, then yes ![]()
KILL… FLUSH… WASH AWAY

All data and supplemental notes added to ticket
I did the ID trick but as I’m using the DVD order it’s still broken as it thinks I’ve 7 episodes but its the specials and the aired episodes so far
I am also currently struggling with this and didn’t want to create yet another thread on this, so jumping in here.
Scanner: Plex TV Series
Agent: Plex Scanner
I have done the Plex dance multiple times without resolution. Series name, description, etc all shows correct as Doctor Who (2023). However Episode titles, etc are not working correctly.
I tried using a .plexmatch file to hint it to the tvdb 449991, it all refreshed but still the exact same issue after a plex dance.
Path: \Doctor Who (2023)\Season 1\Doctor Who (2023) - S01E01 - Space Babies.mkv
What happens if you Fix Match and just paste the TVDB ID into the title field like this:
tvdb-449991
Its the same issue. It matches fine. Thats not the issue. Its the TVDB airing that is broken.
For those tuning in and not reviewing the above :::
- Everyone can get plex to find the Doctor Who (new series) aka the 2023-2024 season via the TVDB 449991 with no issues.
- The episodes are broke if using TVDB airing mode but work if using TMDB
