I just created a new library for my FLAC collection and I now have almost all the albums showing twice. One of the two albums shows all of the tracks and the second shows only a few tracks from the album. How does this happen and how do I correct it?
“edit” the library where you are seeing the duplicated and check the list of folders.
To Edit the specific library, Hover over its name to expose the ellipsis (...
). click it and then Edit
Usually this happens because certain tags in the metadata for the tracks aren’t identical. If you haven’t configured Plex to follow local embedded metadata, the problem is probably coming from Gracenote or Last.FM.
If you look at the metadata for each individual track, in order for all tracks to show up in the same album:
- the Album tags have to be identical (a simple typo can screw this up, or “Bee Gees” vs. “The Bee Gees,” for example).
- If all tracks are by the same artist, the Artist tag should be identical, and the AlbumArtist tag should be left blank, or also identical.
Personally, I’ve found Gracenote and Last.FM to be so unreliable in this regard (and even more so for classical music), that I chose to configure Plex to use local embedded tags. This may require a lot of up-front work to get your tags into shape, but I haven’t had to put up with this particular headache since doing so.
