I imported my music folder and some albums show multiple copies in the player. I checked the files and there are no duplicates in the album or song files.
Is it showing one album with a few of the tracks, and a second album (same name, same artwork) with the rest of the tracks?
If so, this usually means that the ID3 information is messed up. I’ve seen this a lot with last.FM and Gracenote, the services Plex uses to get ID3 tags. My solution was to make sure my embedded ID3 tags were set correctly, then configured Plex to use embedded tags.
What I am seeing is 3 albums with the same art work, one of them has all the tracks, the other two have all the tracks but duplicated, 2 of track 1, 2 of track 2, and so on.
Not sure if you figured this one out, but I think I did. You may try clicking on music, clicking on setting button on the top right of the screen and selecting “Edit Library”. You may see two folders in there one of which is inside the music folder. I think plex scans each folder individually and therefore doesn’t distinguish that the folder is inside the other folder.
In my case I had one artist that wasn’t scanning into my library, due to a permission issue. Before discovering the permission issue I added that artists’ folder to the music library, which happened to be inside a folder that was already in the music library. After I removed it and refreshed the duplicates disappeared.
I hope this helps you.
If you are using a NAS like Netgear ReadyNAS then watch out for snapshots in your music share. These will also get scanned by Plex and lead to a new album version for each snapshot. You can check if this is happening by selecting the album and then using the “edit” button on the left side menu and then choosing the info option. This will show you the files that are the basis for the album and where they are located. Might help some of you.
