One of my main features why I’m using Plex is suddenly not working anymore, or at least partially. I have two TV shows for which I am downloading the episodes to my mobile for offline watching. This usually works just fine, but recently I get two (different) error messages with two episodes from two different shows. And I can’t watch them on my mobile.
The one show errors out saying it can’t access the external storage. There is no external storage, there is only an internal memory. And no other TV show has that problem…

The other TV show worked just fine, but episode 8 suddenly errors out with the following error:

An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.
What connection? I am trying to watch offline, not online. And the connection is working just fine. Whether I sit next to the server in the home lan or I’m out and about, the error is always the same. But then I can watch any other show without problem.
I tried deleting them and dowloading it again, but the same errors show up again. How can I get this to work? This is the most important reason I have Plex.
Any hints where I can debug this more?
It would help if you indicated what these episodes were and approximately what time you tried to play them so I know where to look in your logs.
The TV Show that doesn’t work at all is The Swarm.
The other issue with checking the connection is Band of Brothers, Episode 8.
I’d have to check. I believe I tried shortly before I posted this on my mobile.
I just tried on the mobile again, and then downloaded the debug log.

For The Swarm, was that downloaded without a transcode? From what I’m seeing in the logs, the file is badly encoded and the app isn’t handling it well. Try replacing the original or forcing a transcode during the Download and see if that helps.
For Band of Brothers, I see the error. Basically the player didn’t like something in this file too. It’s different from The Swarm but still due to the file. Can you post the xml info for this episode from your server? Was this also downloaded without a transcode? You could try forcing a transcode for this too to see if that helps.

How would I force it to be transcoded? Do I have to change a specific Video Quality? Or is there some switch just for these episodes? Currently it is set to Original quality both for Video and Audio.
refFrames=“8”
My guess would be this is the cause. 1080p at 24fps only support 4 refFrames. Set the quality lower than the source to force a trasncode.
Although I would recommend replacing the original file. You may run into more issues with this file later on.
Ok, thanks. I will try to handbrake the videos to get rid of those errors.
However, it would be very helpful to get a more “speaking” error message than a non-existent external storage, when in fact it is a file problem.
Yeah. I’m not sure why it’s showing that error.
