Download failing to iOS/iPadOS - 8.16->8.17 regression

Sorry to be dense, but do you mean turn of ipv6 for plex somewhere (if so where) or turn it off on my synology somewhere (and also where)?

Nevermind - Found it under Settings - Network (top checkbox). Testing now.

Settings - Server - Network - Show Advanced

At the top.

This really is a noise/nuisance debug line. It doesn’t impact operation.

It reports as a problem because plex.direct is IPv4-only. Adding the ipv6 prefix changes that.

I think I may still be having a different issue. Glad you have it working, so maybe there is a way for it to work for me without an app update.

In my logs above, I was already using ipv4, and I did just disable ipv6 on my PMS and stoppped/started it. Download is still not working for me.

from server -
CERT: incomplete TLS handshake from 192.168.0.12:64661: stream truncated

from client -
(197 MB) (3055478) :x: PMKLogging.m:14 | Download failed: Data transfer failed (The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be “192.168.0.200” which could put your confidential information at risk.).

Also, playing content works fine, it is just the downloading that is failing.

@ChuckPa thank for trying to help here, seems like the Plex mothership could provide some additional help for what appears to be a fairly wide spread issue.

In my case the issue isn’t limited to Synology, I’m running PMS on MacOS.

I’m going to try disabling IPv6 to see if that makes a difference, but this isn’t by any measure a fix.

@danorum

Do you have your own certificate installed on the Syno?

Are you attempting to access through some FQDN (your private DDNS or Synology’s DDNS) ?

PMS is very touchy about things like that and it seems the app is too ??

Lastly, given your PMS cert is new, when’s the last the server and apps where restarted ? (cold restart)

@ozsmac

Same questions for you please , twisted appropriately for MacOS .

ALL:

make certain the system time and the app time (Date/Time) is correct.
If not “NTP” sync’d (phones and tablets are by default) HTTPS and certs immediately fail and report all kinds of stupid errors.

ChuckPa - i appreciate your willingness to support troubleshooting this.

To your questions -

Absolutely vanilla setup here with downloads that broke / regressed on the most recent client release. Everything is just an immediate “Data Transfer Failed” unless i sync from outside my local network (which of course means everything takes forever).

PMS is set up w/ no separate certificates / SSL configurations beyond OOB.

While i have a FQDN, there is non set in either PMS or my client - it auto-discovered my Plex server on 1st launch from the device (iPad Pro in this case) and merrily works for everything except downloads, which are at a 100% fail rate on the latest client release.

Per your above comments, I disabled IPV6 with no apparent changes in behavior.

Everything is NTP synced, and a quick time check on both client and server are a-ok for time/date.

In my case, PMS is happily (otherwise) running on a docker container in Ubuntu where it has chugged along for a few years now.

To confirm, you’re opening it , in the app, by selecting it -or- do you have a manual IP address/hostname entered ?

I Tested disable IPV6, dont work. The time on the devices and the Server is exactly the same.

I want to Download at home. No VPN

Check your PM

Just went digging and found something :sunglasses:

If I read this correctly, app version 8.19 looks like the target.

FIXED:

  • Fixed a certificate authentication issue that could cause download failures from some servers. [#15677]

This what everyone’s needing?

  • No cert installed on either server (original Synology or temp Windows PMS I set up to test)

-Just selecting the server library from the client, no manual/FQDN config

  • I just updated both servers (Syno and the test one on my windows machine). Both are still failing.

  • I also checked and the time matches my windows machine AND my snyo server.

Sorry my reply got in before yours with the possible news about 8.19. Hopefully that gets built and released soon and I can test it.

From what I can see, it’s being tested now. I wouldn’t normally expect more than a day or two

Here are my appropriately twisted replies to the questions

Do you have your own certificate installed on MacOS PMS?
No, untouched vanilla install

Are you attempting to access through some FQDN (your private DDNS or Synology’s DDNS) ?
Nope, local network and auto discovered without issue

Time setup on PMS and client
Both sync’d and confirmed

I see that 8.19 (5872) is currently in beta via TestFlight, will give it a test tonight.

Go for it

:+1:

I keep checking to see if there are slots open for it, but there aren’t. Let us know if it resolves the issue for you!

If you are seeing the certificate error in your logs, the newest Plex for iOS 8.19 should fix it. Please update and let us know.

Updated to 8.19 and downloads seem to be working again.

This fixed it for me too! I tested a download before updating and it was failing. Updated and download automatically started up and is now working great.
