On this topic of about a year ago, the answer is “downloads on Android TV is not being considered” without any more information.
The topic was closed, so noone can respond anymore …
Could the Plex team please clarify why this is not being considered? Since it already exists on Android Mobile, it shouldn’t be a big leap to get it on Android TV as well? I find quite some topics on other forums (eg Reddit) where people are trying to find a solution to use downloads on Android TV. It would really be welcome …
Downloads is currently a big focus for us, but is focused around the mobile experience. The response there is correct that we are not working on this for TV clients. While I get that there is some hardware that might have enough storage for downloads, generally what we see in terms of usage for TV clients are that they are devices with little to no storage. Instead, we are working to make the download experience better for clients that would have storage and could cast to a tv like mobile devices and laptops. While this may not directly answer all of the questions here, hopefully it at least explains a little bit of our current approach here.
I wonder if it’s possible to download the mobile phone plex app to my portable media player (which is an android tv) and watch the downloaded contents?
