DS1621+ DSM7 Plex Media Server Not Found

Server Version#:1.22.0.4163
Player Version#:n/a

Hi all,

I’ve been trying to transfer my Plex Media Server from my PC to my new Synology DS1621+ and after following several guides I found by searching the forums it seemed like the transfer went alright, but Plex does not recognize that the Media Server exists on the Synology., When it’s completely deactivated on PC and I load plex via the web app, I have no detected PMS. When I re-activate the Windows PMS, it comes right back (reads the media from the NAS just fine). I feel like this is a permissions error, and indeed when following the guide I kept seeing reference to giving the plex user read permissions; however, I don’t have a “plex” user in my Shared permissions. Is that one I’m supposed to create manually, or should it have been created with the installation of the PMS on the NAS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your time

The package does all the work.

There is no “plex” username in DSM 7 - force changed to PlexMediaServer.

Release notes here.

For your situation , if I understand correctly, you only need to have the server self-clim using the “Plex Claim Token”.

  1. Uninstall w/ KEEP option (default)
  2. Install again, select “Plex Claim Token” option
  3. Click “Get Claim Token” link
  4. Copy claim-xxxxxx token from the newly opened browser window
  5. Return to the installer and paste the token in the box.
  6. Click NEXT until it starts installing again
  7. After about 20-30 seconds, it will respond; telling you it’s claimed for your Plex account name.

Now you can open the server.

Hi @ChuckPa

Thank you for the response! Unfortunately I have tried to re-install three times now with the claim token, it says it works and then I still see no server running in Plex settings. Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks for your time!

Hi @trumpy81

Thank you for your response! This is precisely what I did at the start, and trying again, I’m still not seeing the list of servers, sadly.

Hi @trumpy81

I have followed these steps and had the same results, no media server recognized. Also, I don’t have a user “Plex” to set as owner, just admin, guest, my NAS username and user.

Ah, makes sense. Yes, I did make sure that user had read/write permissions where necessary.

I have no idea what I did differently, but a fresh attempt at this has everything running properly and it is now importing the libraries successfully to PMS.

Thank you to both @ChuckPa and @trumpy81 for their help
