Fresh install : Server not found and Plex folder not created

Server Version#: DSM 7.0-41222
Player Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.22.2.4282-a97b03fad-aarch64_DSM7

Have had issues with Plex on my NAS DS218play
I tried to install Plex for the first time with these : https://forums.plex.tv/t/installation-setup-of-plex-media-server-on-synology/572179/7

I tried the install manually and using the store.
When i launch the server for the first time I havn’t the “How it works” page. A message it’s display “You have not access to this server”.

I look at many topics about this and tries this :
-Disable the NAS firewall
-Check the local network
-Check PlexManager user rights
-Create plex.tv account

Many topics talks about the /Plex/Library/Application Support folder and preferences.xml but the folder Plex isn’t created automatically. Then i tried to create it and force the path. Not better but i could get this log file : Plex Media Server (1).log (514.9 KB)

I had never use Plex before, maybe i missunderstanding the installation ? Any solutions ?
Thanks a lot

From all I can find, PMS on DSM 7 is still in a forum preview. The new package is quite different from how Plex used to work on DSM 5+6… so you best take a look at the related information

@pleinlapoire

I’m sorry you’ve run into difficulties.

Plex on DSM 7 is radically different than DSM 6.

The guide you referenced is for DSM 6.

To ‘Translate’ the page to DSM 7:

  1. Instead of giving user Plex permissiong, you now give System Internal UserPlexMediaServer” permission to read your media.
    a. Control Panel - Shared Folders
    b. Permissions tab
    c. Change “Local User” to “System Internal User”
    d. Assign the permissions for “PlexMediaServer”

  2. There will be no “Plex” shared folder. Everything is stored internally now. This was mandated by DSM 7

  3. Changing from username Plex to PlexMediaServer was also mandated by DSM 7.

  4. Any guides you may see about setting up Plex on Synology require adjustment to this new environment.

  5. Getting the log file you did tells me that you went into the Synology command line and found the storage area.

  6. I am going to recommend you do not attempt to control Plex that way nor attempt to modify how Plex operates on DSM 7.

  7. On DSM 7, I’ve created:

a. A claiming tool (which appears to be what you need) - “Install using Plex Claim Token” option as you install the package.

b. I’ve provided a means for you to always have your log files in a normal shared folder if you wish (Logging Options during installation / Upgrade)

Is there anything else I can help with ?

Did you notice the Plex installation GUI is multi-lingual ?

Hi !
Firstly i’m impressed about your reactivity and implication !
Your answer was clear, but unfornuately i have already done this actions.
To be sure i do it again :
-Setup permissions
-Install manually the PlexServer package
-Use claim token (the ID who claimed is the same than the ID of my plex.tv account) :

The server stay not found :

I appreciate the GUI was multi-lingual ! (You could see the screencaps are in french, sorry)

This is the log file about the new install with claimed token : Plex Media Server (3).log (494.5 KB)
Thanks again

Where are you getting these log files?

I see they are DSM 7 but how? There is no GUI accessible mechanism unless you redirected the log files during installation ?

Regarding the “no soup” , this is telling us that the account owner credentials do not match the credentials of the username accessing it – or – user authentication is not working.

That’s it, I redirect log file during installation to help solving this issue.

My local NAS account was linked with an email address. For example “toto@contoso.com”.
During the installation, when I use claim token the answer is "Plex Server claim with success with “toto@contoso.com
That’s why I sign in on Plex.tv with toto@contoso.com ans use it to log in to the PlexServer

Maybe i have to log in with the local NAS account ? Or the mail address was not the right thing to setup ?

That’s how my NAS appear in my plex.tv account :

I have checked your account.

  1. I find the Plex.tv account for quentin . I see no servers registered there.
  2. I do not find an account for toto@contoso.com.

Are you certain these are the correct credentials ?

Oh that’s only example.
My real Plex.tv account is : quentin.chaigne@hotmail.fr

Thank you. I was beginning to wonder what was happening.

It’s clear that your DSM 7 system is not contacting Plex.tv using this account.

I am very concerned because:

  1. When PMS states “PlexMediaServer has been claimed for XXXXX”
  2. This is confirmation the server entry exists.
  3. Checking the account again shows me:
    Screenshot from 2021-04-20 11-03-50

Are you 100% certain you used the correct account ?

Here are my local accounts :

The mail setup is the one I used to create my Plex.tv account.
This the right way ?

(Thanks for your time)

Correct…

your Plex account is what you use for everything related to Plex.

You use the Synology account to sign into the NAS.
From that point forward, you use your Plex account.

When you registered the server, you registered it to your quentin email account?

Yes, when i claimed it, the same email account valid the token.

But don’t worry, don’t waste time with this, i’ll try to restart the install from the begning. And if still not working i’ll try later

When you uninstall, please be certain to have it completely remove -OR- Sign Out.

It’s better to create the Plex account after the install ?

No.

It’s better to create the Plex.tv account first.

If you have the account first, you can then claim (associate) the new server with your account at installation time. This makes setup much easier.

No way, I give up

Info : Using the package with the store the option to claim the server isn’t showed

Thanks for your help
