DS418 Play upgraded to DSM 7 issues lost my media server

I don’t really even know where to start.
I updated my DS418Play… I don’t know why I did to be honest. Everything was working great on my old server.
I have lost my old server and some new server has been setup in its place.
Tried changing the permissions…
Just hours gone wasted getting their server to a place where I was really happy with it.
Why destroy something that works perfect as it is.

Under authorised devices, I have this

1.24.3.5033-757abe6b4
Plex Media Server
DS418play
Linux DSM 6.2.4.25556-2

Deauthorised the new server but no idea how to delete it…

Upgrading from DSM 6 → DSM 7 and trying to “wing it” doesn’t work.

DSM 7 is too radical a change to just guess

Did you review this?

  1. First post tells you all the changes

  2. Bottom (post 6) Tells you how to get your DSM 6 server to DSM 7 ( how to work with the new installer to move all the data around – with the automation – so nothing is lost

If you have questions (which I’m sure you will), don’t hesitate to ask.

Thanks @ChuckPa for the response.

Hoping if I follow the steps it will. In the mix I’ve also replaced one of the drives with a larger size so I have to wait a day or so for it repair the system.

I’ll change the permissions. Should that mean my old setup under the old server should then come up? I’ve gone through the setup not realising and it looks like a new server (assuming under the new plex media server folder) has opened. Is there a way to delete or will that process hopefully merge them into one?

If you follow my steps, not missing any, it will come up.

After it does come up,

For each shared folder which contains media:

  1. Right-click it in FileStation → Properties
  2. Permission tab
  3. flip to system internal user or click “Create” then select – and pick “PlexMediaServer”
  4. Give it the permisions you want
  5. Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files (so all files are updated)
  6. go to the next shared folder.

That’ll do it. It will come right up when everything changes from plex to PlexMediaServer (we were forced to change name)

I think I had bugged it somewhere along the line. Worked out ok… gonna just start afresh I think. Question- when I go in plex to add a folder from my Synology it’s showing a whole bunch of what i would imagine would be system folders e.g. @appcare @usbcopy etc
I shouldn’t see them. Just my folders that have files related to plex

Normal to see those. Just scroll on down to the shared folder(s) where your media is stored.
