Hi, i use DSM 7.0-41890 on 220+, new, and come with DSM 7. I install manually PMS PlexMediaServer-1.24.1.4931-1a38e63c6-x86_64_DSM7, i give the permisions, but i still have the error: Not authorized.
My process has failed, but I’m not sure where. I followed the instructions to uninstall PMS for DSM6, then upgraded to DSM7 and followed the instructions for installing PlexMediaServer-1.24.4.5081-e362dc1ee-x86_64_DSM7.spk [Edit: I quoted the wrong file at first]. I got no error msgs, just the “reminder” to change my permissions, which I did. When I went to uninstall PMS the first time, it did not show an error, but showed the server as Installed. I uninstalled, saving all data, and reinstalled. I can bring up Plex okay now, but I get an “Unavailable” message for my media. (I have doublechecked several times on the permissions, not just for the server but for the media folders.)
At no time did I see any msg about migration of my data, nor did the installation take any longer than any routine update. It seems that the automatic migration of my data did not occur.
I only have one volume on the NAS, so everything is in the same volume. I show three folders related to Plex:
MediaServer (my media)
Plex
PlexMediaServer
I don’t know the difference between the last two, but they were there before and are still there. I set permissions in both.
Before I saw your reply, I tried reinstalling again, using the token method. When the server came up, it basically started me from scratch with recreating libraries. I told it to add the Movies folder, which it is in the process of doing, apparently without issue.
Have I just blown my previous configuration out of the water, with the loss of all metadata customization? (I did back up my metadata folder from the DSM6 version before starting all this. Can I use that to restore my metadata? Or is there still a way to go back and save the original library setup? Thanks.
I do still have all the folders and files in the metadata folder. But if I uninstall and tell it to remove all data, won’t that delete all that information? How can I ensure that the reinstallation will use the metadata that I have backed up?
Okay, have followed instructions. The installation, as before, took less than a minute, and automatically opened the player. (The instructions seem to imply that the migration part takes place during the installation, and that I should see a spinning wheel, and eventual confirmation, there in the control panel. I didn’t.) But the player is spinning and spinning, so should I assume that that’s where the work is being done? I’ll leave it alone for now.
I just repeated, and I still don’t get any indication of a migration in progress. The installation is finished very quickly, and it simply says it’s done. Nothing about having completed a migration.
Yes to all of those. And checked several times. And yet now, when I looked one more time at the permissions for PlexMediaServer, the permissions I gave it were all lost. So I am redoing the permissions and trying once more.
EDIT: This time it’s following the script, and taking a long time to install. First time I’ve ever been happy to see an installation take a long time!
Tangential question: Is Plexamp for Android not compatible with this new version of PMS? I’ve logged into Plex on my phone (regular Plex app), but Plexamp isn’t working any more–all I get is a blank screen.
I should have thought of this before I asked: I needed to reboot both my Android devices before signing out and signing back in. (But it was odd, on my phone, to just get a black screen.) Anyway, that fixed it.
