Latest PMS 1.41 manual install fails on DSM 7.2.2

DSM Version#: 7.2.2-72806
PMS installer version: 1.41.3-9292-72009292

After updating to DSM 7.2.2 my Plex broke. Per other posts in this forum, I uninstalled Plex (did not delete my Plex Media Library) and then manually downloaded the latest PMS installer for Synology DSM and attempted to manually install it.

When I do that, DSM gives me the error “Failed to install “Plex Media Server”.”

I’m not sure how to which logs I would need to share.

Plex is not currently installed on the DSM. I have confirmed that I have the right installer. The other two package options are not compatible with my DS418+.

Any help is very much appreciated!

I have 1.41.3-9292 installed on my DS918+ running DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 2.

Make sure you download the DSM 7.2.2+ version of Plex Media Server.

The full file name is: PlexMediaServer-1.41.3.9292-bc7397402-x86_64_DSM72.spk.

Note DSM72 at the end.

Yes, I have the correct one. If I try to install either of the other two options I get an error that they are incompatible.

Try restarting the DS918+. Maybe something is hung up in the OS.

If you cannot install 1.41.3 after the restart, try installing the version in Package Center, 1.40.4.8840.

Do not run it. Just want to know if it will install.

Reboot did not change circumstances.

Install from Package Center fails. That was originally what led me to the manual install.

I suspect there are some remnants somewhere left from the failed install that is preventing the manual install from succeeding.

Try downloading the Installer with another browser, regardless of what browser you are currently using.

In the past, Chrome and Edge were known to not always complete the download correctly.

Reboot the NAS before attempting to install the package.

If Package Center fails, then try installing the package using SSH.

Copy the package to your NAS, but NOT to the PlexMediaServer folder.

SSH into your NAS using your Admin User name and password and then issue the following commands in the order given:

  • sudo -su root
  • Admin User Password if prompted
  • synopkg uninstall “PlexMediaServer” (may fail - continue)
  • synopkg install “path to/PlexMediaServer*.spk”
  • If Plex does not automatically start then enter
  • synopkg start PlexMediaServer

Let me know if that works or not.
