DSM7 on Synology DS414

Hi,

I tried to Install Plex Media Server on my DS414 with DSM 7
I followed the thread with the guide.
Everything seems ok, but plex media server starts and after stops and it says (stopped manually)

If i try to reach the URL of the server it says “connection refused”

how to manage this stuff?

Need a lot more info please.

  1. Did you previously have PMS running on DSM 6 ?
  2. If so, is the old Plex shared folder now empty of the Plex Media Server folder?
  3. During install of the DSM 7 Plex app, you have the ability to move your log files to a shared folder which is easily accessible. (It’s in the installation GUI). Do you remember seeing that ?

@ChuckPa

I am having the same issue on my DS414, however I deleted everything including the share files after I upgraded from DSM 6.x to DSM 7 because the repair option failed. I had just started to use PMS so my media share only had two movies loaded. I was testing and found that it appeared that if I upgraded to DSM 7 things would be better. Nope.

I ran through the install and get the same problem as @Drimacus80. I did not choose to put the log files in another share. So to answer your same questions above.

  1. Yes
  2. I deleted it and everything related to PMS. Tried an install from scratch and get the same problem.
  3. Answered above, but I did get the option but did not take it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

@pexelva

I would like you to do the following:

  1. Download the app from the link below

  2. Install it

  3. Uninstall with the ERASE option (just to make certain everything is cleared out)

  4. Now install the same package again.

  5. You should be able to get it claimed and started … Be patient with it (give it 3 minutes after installing before opening) as it’s only an Armada XP CPU with 1 GB.

Try this link:

Quick update before I do this.

As I mentioned I had everything removed, including my media share. I recreated the media share, gave it the correct permission (at least I believe I did), did the manual install using the token method. Gave the PlexMediaServer the correct permissions. I also setup the log file share. The install completed, but did not run. I had to run it myself. It has stayed up as running but I now am getting this:

I will attempt to re-install with this version that you sent me and get back to you.

Thanks,
Phil

@trumpy81

Rebooting my router and everything connected to it would require rebooting several devices in my home network. I can do that tonight after everyone has gone to bed but doing that during the day would cause my family to run me out of the house. :slight_smile:

I will do the install with the token again according to @ChuckPa instructions and see what happens. If I am still getting the site can’t be reached error, then I will do all the rebooting tonight “after hours”. Thanks for chiming in though.

I actually run the Synology DNS server, can I just reboot that?

Getting closer. Bounced the DNS server and opened a totally new chrome window.

http://192.68.100.6:32400/web came up and asked me if it could sign into my plex account, I agreed and now I have to he following:

That orange circle is just spinning.

Hang on. I just reloaded the page and to seems to be working. I’ll update as soon as I see if it works.

Wow. Thank you to both @ChuckPa & @trumpy81 for all your help. Things seem to be working and I am in the process of uploading media to the media folder. It turned out to be the combination of using the latest server version, using the token install, and bouncing my DNS server to get everything to work. I have also connected one of my AppleTVs as well.

I’ll update if I run into any other issues.
