Any plans to send DTS directly out of the Plex app? My PS4 is connected to my receiver which supports DTS-MA. I would think this should be possible via HDMI or optical audio out.
Sony does not allow third party apps except those of their choosing to utilize the DTS codec on the console.

Well, if some 3rd parties apps can I would expect there be a process from Sony to go through so that Plex could as well. Failing that, perhaps the Plex app could do the decoding and send PCM out.
Although that’s not really what I’m asking. You can set the PS4 to output the raw DTS stream which then the receiver detects what it is and decodes it. For example when I play a BluRay has DTS-HD MA my receiver shows that it’s receiver the bit stream directly as the PS4 isn’t doing the decoding. So if that is possible that would be ideal as my receiver can decode better than the PS4, but if for some reason that’s not possible having the PS4 decode would also be acceptable.
Actually that would be a better option if possible; just output the raw stream out, skipping any PS4 decoders, and then any format the receiver supports would work, assuming its in the container.
Hi @aj1701 the context mentioned by @BigWheel is accurate. Although not to your liking it’s the only answer we can provide at this time.

BigWheel didn’t provide any real context, just to say that Plex doesn’t do it today and tries to blame Sony. The fact that some 3rd party apps can do it suggests there’s a process so that it could be done, but there’s no mention of if this is something that might be in process or if another approach is being considered or even if its something you’d like to do eventually but its feasible right now.
Also I find your response a bit rude; not what I’d expect toward a paying customer posting a feature request.
To be clear, Plex cannot do it today. It is not by our choice. We’re a consumer of a Sony playback platform which doesn’t support DTS.
You specifically asked if there are plans which we responded “No”. Rejecting that answer confused me. Rude absolutely wasn’t my intent.
Could someone dumb this down for me a bit more? How was, for example, the PS3 Media Server able to send the “pure” raw audio stream over DLNA straight through the console to a receiver to be decoded? (Not sure if Plex DLNA server does the same thing.) Is this something that PS3s can do that PS4s cant? Or is it the specific “playback platform” the Plex rides on top of prevents this from happening?
AJ - Just wondering, what PS4 apps (not blurays, games) are on a platform that can output raw audio to receiver? Even PS4 MP doesn’t do that.

I don’t think I said any apps did, BigWheel implied that some could, so I was going off that.
