Duplicate recording issue

Recording started… Crashed at 5 secs in.
Per guide + series recording schedule, the show was still airing but not recording…

I thought to myself “is this that thing Plex does when it thinks it already has that show/episode in its library so doesn’t record it again?”
Deleted the 5 second recording and sure enough the scheduled recording for the remainder of the show kicks off again.

Really??? this obviously seems a non-ideal way to handle this scenario. Plex should know going in “I’m supposed to be recording this for the duration of the show per guide (x mins)”

Gotta love Plex’s Prime Directive – Don’t record anything without 100% verification that the program doesn’t look like something you might have already recorded.

My two cents: Based on my experience, you are describing a situation where either Plex didn’t have the correct authority to save the recording to the specific folder on the drive or there was a signal problem with your antenna (i.e. the signal dropped). I have been using the Plex DVR for years now. If I already had the episode in my library, the episode won’t show up on the DVR schedule and Plex won’t attempt to record it.

There should be an error in the DVR schedule tab. What does it say?

No error, as far as Plex is concerned it successfully recorded the episode (the first 5 secs). I even got an “on deck” push notification to my mobile phone.

Which meant there was a “S01E01” already in my library, so it did not trigger any further recording for the remainder of the show.

I don’t know why the start / finish of a recording isn’t recorded in the server alerts, or why we couldn’t have a recording history registry similar to the “play history” one.
The free parts of Plex (library, etc) seem better delivered to me than the bits i paid for (DVR).
