Duplicates being shown after updating version of movie (movie poster has "2" on it

I recently re-ripped a few movies and added them to my PLEX server. After I added them, I deleted the duplicate files, but PLEX still shows them as duplicates. Is there an easy way to remove the duplicates?

I’ve tried to:
re-scan libraries
reboot server
empty garbage
Analise database

Server Version#:Windows 10
Plex Version# 4.32.1
Player Version#:Windows, AppleTV

Does it show two files under “Get Info”? Is one of those files marked Unavailable?

It shows two files, and one of them is no longer on the drive. It does NOT say unavailable.

Hmm not sure then. I did a test and deleted an episode of a show from the filesystem and checked Get Info and it was marked Unavailable instantly. No library rescan needed…

Can you please fix the server version? The version posted looks to be Plex Web version.

Is the file that should be deleted in use somewhere? If you reboot, and navigate to that folder, did the file reappear?

File is not in use, I’ve rebooted and restarted the service. As an example, I ripped a copy of movieA1. A year later I redo the rip and now I have movieA2.

I copy movieA2 to a different drive, then delete movieA1 after it’s been detected as a duplicate. The reason I do this is because I want to maintain my collections.

Once I delete the movieA1, I would think in theory the duplicate would go away at next scan, but it doesn’t.

I can manually scan, but that doesn’t help. I can restart PLEX or reboot, doesn’t help.

The only fix I can do is to “split apart”, then delete the one with the the filename movieA1
