Ok guys, we haven’t found the Synology solution yet (still working through that one) but for Linux that uses udev rules here’s the fix:
Rename the attached file to 60-tvbutler-perms.rules and copy it to /etc/udev/rules.d
Then run:
sudo udevadm control --reload-rules
sudo service udev restart
sudo udevadm trigger
sudo service plexmediaserver restart
This should allow Plex Tuner Service to have libusb access to the TV Butler, and it should show up in PMS after this. If not, try removing the usb drive and replugging it and if it still doesn’t try rebooting.
Let us know if you’re still having issues! If so please attach:
/var/log/syslog
sudo dmesg > dmesg.txt
and the normal PMS logs as well.
I’m working on talking to our packaging team on the best way to get this packaged.
@ARpfel I was poking around my personal Synology, and noticed a /lib/udev folder, can you try to drop in the file from the post above, renamed to 60-tvbutler-perms.rules in /lib/udev/rules.d and then if the commands above don’t work, try just rebooting the NAS and see if it comes up after?
The dev I’ve been working with is busy with quadhd stuff ATM, but hoping this will fix your issue (I have a Syno, but in the US, so no TV Butler here unfortunately)

@killic41@gmail.com you can try above as well.
Hi
i am have this problem where do i find /lib/udev/rules.d
@Plex guys - The udev rule works great for the TVButler however I was wondering and others probably are too (why doesn’t the rule contain information for setting a device file path)?
The reason being the udev rules are where the device file path is specified for a specific device. Specifying this enables other devices to properly access it and assess it’s capabilities.
Also could the udev rule file please be included in a pull request or other submission to the appropriate open source development project?
On MacOS I found my DVBLinkServer still running in the background which prohibited Plex to properly initialise the device. As soon as I killed it it worked fine.
I have the same problem with a Synology DS1512 +, my TV-Butler can not find any channels although it works without problems in TVMosaic.
Unfortunately, I do not understand the solution that is described in the thread. I find neither the attachment in the thread nor the folder where I hav to copy in the attachtment or rename something.
You wrote that you could solve the problem with it.
Can you explain to me a bit about what I have to do or how to proceed?
no, same Problem as before. Never got an answer from Plex Devs… I am a Plex Pass user since the beginning, sad but true:-(
I Use for now MrMc and the TV Plugin “TVMosaic”; it works like a charm with TVButler. Also there is a native App for Android/ TVOS by TVMosaic, this works too:-)
Hi - I am looking for the file that was referenced in this thread…
I have tvbutler, too, and it is not finding any channels in Plex (but everywhere else)
