DVR BUG: follow team

Is there any suggestions on a free XMLTV guide? And how might it compare to Plex’s?

I heard m3u4u provides a good XML guide. I don’t use them but some people say they’re all the rage. If you want to know what I use I’ll message you directly.

Can we get an update on the status of the bug report. Has the issue been identified and a plan in place to correct? Eta?

This issue has nothing to do with this thread. Please remove it and post it elsewhere.

I considered it a DVR bug that it would record but then not save the file or show an error. I had my original post moved here for that reason.

Huh? How is your issue related to the Follow Team feature?

@hassandhagey this thread is about a very specific feature regardinig sports teams. It is not a topic, nor is any, to add every DVR issue that can possibly exist, I’ve moved your post to a new topic here. Recording not finishing

Looking at the bug report for the sports teams issue. it does not look like the cause has been figured out but i see the priority has been increase and they are trying to get it solved soon ( though I cannot promise a specific ETA. )

Seems like the easy answer is to record everything with the team name in the description. The guide data provided by Plex already has that data.

This is great to hear. Hoping your team gets this fixed soon as it been a bug for nearly a year!

Ah, but that would require an incredibly advanced feature like “keyword recording” – well, incredibly advanced by Plex standards, given that Plex still doesn’t even allow recording by channel/time that would allow users to work around the regularly occurring issues of not being able to get recordings to schedule.

Of course, out in the real (Non-Plex) world, DVR software exists, including a free one maintained by a single guy, that has manual recording, and keyword recording, and host of other features that any average DVR user would expect to see.

I had to revert back to Version 1.24.5.5173 for the sports team name to be recognized and record accordingly. However, now the red record button no longer shows in the Guide View even though the show is listed under the DVR Schedule. TV Recording, Playing Pack during recording or pause while recording has never worked. Plex really does not care about the DVR features and is looking to move into streaming only.

This is not true.

Also, if you maintain your own XMLTV guide like I do then the follow team feature works just fine.

“Also, if you maintain your own XMLTV guide like I do then the follow team feature works just fine”

So in order to use a feature that has worked on Microsoft’s platform over decade ago and worked on Plex up until almost a year ago, I have to create my own XMLTV guide (not to mention everyone else that used Plex’s DVR) to make a feature work again? This is a basic feature all standard DVR software should have but I am suppose to understand how Plex cares about DVR? I guess I don’t share that perspective.

@sixxnet I get how you’re saying there’s a workaround but customers shouldn’t have to go find a workaround to fix something that used to work and that Plex somehow broke.

It’s not a workaround. It’s a fix. It’s part of Plex. If I can do it so can you.

It’s obviously a workaround. You’re just playing games with words. Many people get Plex because of the EPG included with the service. An important scheduling feature was broken at some point which Plex needs to fix. Most users are not going to be looking to provide their own replacement EPG as a “workaround” until Plex corrects the problem – most users would not even know how to do that. You seem to be more interested in flaunting your superior knowledge/ability than you are in actually helping people.

Also, not all XMLTV sources are created equal. The particular source and method that you are using to create your XMLTV happens to include the information needed for the scheduling option to work. Someone else that creates XMLTV from a different source many not have the same result. Using XMLTV is just not a magic bullet that will always fix this problem.

So superior knowledge is downloading an XMLTV file from one of many different sources and then choosing this instead of Plex EPG when setting up the tuner and manually mapping each channel to the correct guide listing? Two extra steps makes me a genius.

I didn’t have a problem finding one with the actual information an XMLTV file is supposed to have. It is standardized after all for that very reason…

I’m on the latest version of the server, and pulling XMLTV data from plex… it seems like it pulls team names fine because when I try to record it has the two correct teams on it. I think it’s more an application issue, it even shows NEW in the guide. So seems like something is just broken when it comes to recording team events.
