Server is on windows and everything is up to date.
I’ve just setup my HDHomerun Connect Duo and activated the Live TV/DVR in Plex.
I cannot find a way to set the default library (I have 3 different TV library), on my PC I can set a different library each time I add a new program to record (but it’s annoying). But when I’m on my Shield even if I change the setting for the recording it goes back to the default TV Library automatically.
I’ve been using Plex for over 10 years, never was disappointed by it. But the lack of settings for the DVR is ridiculous, basic stuff like save location should be there.
My server is on a NAS but, for me, when you hit “record” a window pops up and it remembers the last library (and folder within the library) by media type (Film, TV).
Random example that I just tried below. “TV (hidden)” is one of 2 TV libraries that I have. In this case, there are not multiple folders in the library but, if there were, it would remember the last one used well.
On Apple TV, if I start recording a show I am currently watching, It does not present me with record options. It just starts recording to whatever library is set by default.
I have tried to record a few random shows just to see if the default ‘Add to Library’ destination changes, but it does not.
For context, I run my server on a Synology NAS, and have configured all of my media to be readonly to prevent accidental deletion by myself, a scheduled task in Plex, or the DVR service.
I have a DVR Shows library in Plex whose file directory is read/write so that DVR’d shows can be recorded and deleted without affecting the reset of my ripped media.
Unfortunately, because there is no dedicated setting to assign the default library for DVR recordings, my readonly TV Show library is always selected as default; and fails to record if I forget to change what library to record to.
I just set up Live TV & DVR on a friends server, and it seems ridiculous that I have to record a full show just to supposedly set the default library for future recordings.
A setting in the server options would be a simple solution for setting the default libraries of recorded movies or TV Shows.
I am aware of this process when browsing the guide. I was specifically referring to recording a show that is currently being viewed.
However, my point still stands. The Add to Library selection does not change away from the default selection after setting a recording. It might after manually selecting my DVR Shows library for several recordings, but it is not a consistently reproduced scenario.
Thanks for the suggestion. I am (mostly) aware of the various workarounds, and do use them in these situations.
However I am just trying to add to the conversation for how necessary the ability to configure a default recording location is. I know I am not the only one who has readonly folder structures for Plex, and it’s annoying when a DVR recording fails because the wrong library was selected.
I help a friend, who is not that tech savvy, manage their personal Plex server; and these sorts of workarounds detract from the overall experience / ease of use.
Workarounds should be temporary, not a permanent solution.
