Hi Plex community,
I’ve been struggling with the DVR feature for a while.
I use an HDHomeRun EXTEND. When Plex DVR was first released, it worked flawlessly for months. Starting with a recent release (2-3 months ago), most recordings end up 30 seconds to a few minutes in length. Recorded shows are added to the library, but the recordings end short without error message.
I tried removing and re-adding the HDHomeRun, and I’m not using the remove commercials feature. Signal for the HomeRun is strong, and everything is wired via ethernet - no WiFi. Is anybody else seeing this behavior, and are there log files I can check to pinpoint the source of the issue?
Thanks and best,
Seb
You’re going to want to look at, and share logs to this post…
First, you’ll need to enable debug logging:
Settings > Server > General > Enable Plex Media Server debug logging
Reproduce the issue (let a recording go sideways), pull the logs and post:
Settings > Server > Help > Download Logs
Post the whole zip file.
Thank you, I found something.
Mar 28, 2018 20:09:59.003 [0x700001071000] WARN - NetworkServiceBrowser: Error sending out discover packet from 192.168.1.5 to 192.168.1.255: Network is down
The log files are riddled with these error messages, I assume that could be why the recordings end up short. However, I don’t have any noticeable problems with my LAN. There’s been a few instances where I noticed in the Plex DVR settings that it said my HDHomeRun was disconnected - but I was able to navigate to its web-interface and stream directly through VLC.
Any guess what’s going on?
Just replying to answer my own question. Turns out the HDHomeRun’s signal wasn’t strong enough for Plex, even though I had no issues streaming directly from the HomeRun via VLC. Moving the antenna into an area with better reception solved the issue for me.
The ‘Network is down’ error message in the Plex logs was confusing though.
