I vaguely recall when DVR first came out, there was a 2 device limit (or so my foggy memory is leading me to believe as recall thinking “Glad I don’t have cable anymore then, since I could only use 2 of my 3 Primes”). Regardless if that was ever the case (-something- lead me to believe this though), is there a limit to the number of devices that PMS will allow one to add?
I cannot find anything in the FAQ, let it be an actual numeric limit or “unlimited” statement. Thanks in advance gang.
Well this question got buried fast. Though it may be useful to those just now going out and buying supported devices due in part to the new TV Live feature.
I can’t imagine giggling like a school girl over a ‘feature’ that will allow me to watch Live Advertising through my Plex Server.
That’s kinda why my Plex server is so popular around here - so we can NOT watch advertising. Maybe I have the whole concept wrong - or something. It does facilitate the need for more programming however. Here at my house we watch 42 minutes of programming in 42 minutes - instead of an hour. I find the ‘reader’s digest versions’ much easier to watch.
Juice, when you’re away from “home” due to military deployment or such, having the opportunity to watch everyday TV while on deployment, of either of your hometown (where you joined out of from in most cases) or your “home” city (where your family are anxiously awaiting your return) is, a big deal, at least to some. It provides a way to try to forget where you are, just enough that is.
There are other instances of people, regardless if they’re in the military or not, that may be away from “home” that also want to keep up to date on their “home” local programming. So there is a desire. Granted, when I’m at home, it sure is nice to watch shows without their commercials, but when away… there’s a certain satisfaction to seeing that same “home” attorney commercial in all its over-dramatic glamor and/or local news, to try to pretend your at “home” and your family is just right upstairs safely and comfortably sleeping.
So do you know if there is a device limit then or?

I also do not know if you can even access live TV from a remote location.
The administrator account is the only gateway to live TV AFAIK. If you’re the Admin using Admin Credentials and can access Live TV remotely - you’re good. What Plex does to that ‘Live TV’ trying to get it to your remote location is up for debate - if it’s even possible.
It would seem the best place to ask these burning questions would be in the sub-forum designed for that purpose. I don’t have access to it or I’d throw you a link.

It is the same as delivering any other video to a remote location. If you can stream videos from your server’s hard disk to a remote location, you can do the same with a live TV stream.
It is correct, that for now, only the server administrator can access the live streams.
But that will change, sometime.

Correct, currently only the admin/owner can access the Live TV function, fortunately, I am the admin/owner.
I asked here as it seemed it would be a question that benefit both Plex Pass holders and those contemplating becoming one due to these changes.
No Ninja, Staff or otherwise have answered if there is a device limit yet. Maybe there isn’t one (and it’s assumed we should know) or maybe just no one really knows just yet. I had hoped someone with more than two devices in their DVR (and now Live TV) would know. I may need to re-evaluate my desire to have more than four tuners, as it would seem I may be the minority (I really was hopeful there was someone geeking it up more than me though lol).
