DVR recordings result in empty files

I have a new Plex server setup on Win10 that I’d like to use to DVR with my HDHomerun. Library is a mounted network share from my NAS. Watching live TV works fine, but when I try to record something I end up with zero-byte empty files (under the correct directory and filename).

Attached are my logs. Thanks!

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-09-10_14-52-55.zip (2.7 MB)

In case it’s helpful, the recording here that ended up as zero bytes was of “The Drew Barrymore Show”, but it happens with every recording.

Bit more info: While it’s recording, I see the partial video in the “.grab” directory (non-empty), and within Plex I can start the video from the beginning and pause/rewind.

But when the recording is complete and the file is moved from .grab, the final file ends up empty.

Permissions.

It can create directories and file names but can’t copy or update.

Thanks, I suspected something like that, but not sure what to do about it. This is an SMB mount from my Synology NAS, and is mounted as the admin user and on that mount I can create/copy/update files just fine.

I restarted the PMS and did a new recording of a different show, and this time everything worked fine. File has contents, and I can play it. So I’m not sure what happened, didn’t change anything other than doing the restart. Will do a few more recordings and see what happens.

Just to follow up, post-restart all of my recordings this weekend succeeded and were moved successfully. Not sure why the server needed to be restarted, I did not change anything about the media mount / library, but hopefully it keeps working. Thanks!

That sounds like Plex started before the filesystems were mounted properly. If it happens again restarting Plex will rectify.
