I haven’t been having any performance issues on my system that I’ve noticed. The TV databases are on the internal drive. There is a second drive (also internal) that stores my Plex Media files. Both check out as fine without any problems.
Thanks for the feedback. Do you run any auto backup third party products that do on-the-fly backups ? Whilst I have referred this to the development team. these lockouts on the EPG database have not been seen elsewhere.
I have managed to replicate the problem of the Plex Media Server disappearing on the NVIDIA Shield and forcing one to go through First Run setup again. I have reproduced it with use of the option to move the data to user accessible internal storage. It has been referred to the development team and followed from many user reports - on this forum topic Nvidia Shield Plex Server vanishing

check out the C Drive for disc errors and examine the windows system event log and looking for disk events
I booted from a 2nd hard drive and did a full “disk first aid” on the regular boot drive. There were a few unspecified minor errors that were found which had not been affecting day-to-day usage. I deleted the plex TV databases and am starting fresh again today. I will hope for the best, and post on here again if I receive the “initializing (0%)” error again.

Please let me know if the problem goes away, I think if you have it run for a week without getting stuck again at 0%, we can assume it is fixed
Thanks. And one FYI - I also deleted the Tuner in the DVR settings and recreated it.
PS - is there any news on the issue with iOS and Apple TV and watching live TV with builds newer than .5395? There are a few threads about it - below is one of them. I’m glad to help with debugging if you want since I have an Apple TV and an iPhone for testing.
Same issue as of right now. Why does Plex not address this. Kinda of like dealing with one of the big cable companies. Plex, you are not that big yet to be acting like that. Try addressing the issue and fix this. Myself or (us) having to reset our DVR set up every time the guide does it refresh (Sundays) and gets stuck on initializing is not a fix. Come on Plex you are better than that. My server at this moment is spitting out tones of errors trying to initialize the EPG and one of them should tell you, oh, here is the issue. Also Why not get in front of this and let users know there is an issue and you are at least addressing it.

There are different issues reported in this thread caused by different underlying problems.
If you have a problem please get a screenshot and logs with debug logging enabled beforehand and server restarted before replicating the issue

Today the guide was stuck in initializing (0%) again. I restarted the server and it is now updating successfully. I have to think there is some kind of bug based on my experience and multiple others on this forum. I hope the logs I’ve provided will help isolate it. For some reason it’s not closing the DB file when it quits perhaps, then the file gets stuck “open”?
This morning it is stuck again. Rebooting the PMS app (twice) did not fix it. Will have to delete the database files once again.
I started having issues when I moved the databases off the internal memory to my external formatted usb drive I’ve attached to the shield, I don’t have a super large collection of movies, but I do put my photo’s and music on the external drive as well. The database was getting too large for the 16 gigabyte version I had so I got one of the recommended usb thumb drives (32 gig I think) and formatted it internally on the shield. Once I moved the database back to the internal memory I haven’t had an issue with the EPG updating
It’s been probably over a month now.
Quick Google search shows this has been happening for over 1 year. It’s only affected me since approx Oct, but it keeps crashing the Guide & Plex on a remote Apple TV, seriously love the normal service, love Plex, but this is downright bang out of order, why advertise it as a feature if it doesn’t work as described, this is not what I paid money for!
I’ve not got anything new to add except to be a +1 for this.
No matter what I do, restart Plex media server, restart my Mac mini nothing seems to fix this problem.
It is often difficult to stop Plex media server it just won’t shut down and I have to force kill it.
When Plex restarts it immediately goes into refreshing guide but then never gets past 0%.
Sometimes it sorts itself out over time but often it doesn’t and it simply doesn’t function for days on end.
I can’t spend my life constantly switching it off then on again hoping that sometimes it might work.

I have only seen logs from one user where it is stuck initializing due to some database lockout - which has not been seen in any logs from other users.
Just talking about problems won’t help get them identified and fixed.
If you provide logs collected when stuck initializing I will have a look and if it shows locks on the db then we know this is not just one case.

I’m accessing the Shield from Ubuntu but I’m not seeing any directories for Plex, even after moving them to an accessible location. Is this a problem with using Linux rather than Windows?
Never mind…rebooted Shield and now all show up.
Same issue with PMS. Refreshing guide data stuck @ 0%. Can’t delete DVR. Deleting the tv.plex databases did not work. Logs show database corruption.

just making sure we document in this thread the fix for this. Version 1.14.1.5490 of Plex Media Server was released recently for the NVIDIA SHIELD to resolve an issue where the server disappears after a restart. Arises after moving the application data to user accessible internal storage or to external storage
Thanks for the logs. Yes they do show database corruptions and it appears that is not confined to the EPG database but also the main Plex Media Server database as well
Shut down Plex Media Server and attempt repair / recovery
First, suggest running disk tests - in case of disk errors
The directory where the corrupt files are in is
/Users/brucemortin/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/
For the main database
DB Files with names starting com.plexapp.plugins.library.db
Path: /Users/brucemortin/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/
See if repair of the main database resolves that - or look for scheduled tasks backup to restore from

These can be deleted / renamed and they would get recreated when the server is restarted and the EPG recreated
