Refreshing Guide Data (0%) - Initializing and stuck there

Server Version#: 1.23.4.4805-6000 on Synology NAS
Player Version#: 1.33.0.2444-a220eae4
Tuner Make/Model: HD HomeRun Connect HDHR4-2US OTA
Guide/Lineup name:
Using XMLTV?:
Channel number/Name: All channels

I’m in the USA with PlexPass, using OTA. I have about 30 working Channels. The Server is stuck at refreshing guide data - 0% Initializing. Stuck there for days. But I do actually have one week of guide data. Perhaps this was already there before i did the Server update last week. I’ve tried restarting Plex app and the whole NAS. Neither has helped. Any suggestions?

Possible to get server logs

Here are the server logs. Thanks for any help.

I hope the Log upload worked properly - the 22 bytes does not seem right.

Sorry - here is the log.

BigWheel, Any thoughts? Appreciate the help.

I’m having the same issue. I finally ended up wiping my entire server after trying everything I could think of and none of it working. After installing the new server and getting things set up again the guide data was able to download. Now about a week later it appears to be broken again. It’s now stuck at 0% initializing.

I’m currently running server version 1.23.5.4862

Any help on fixing this issue would be great.

I have upgraded to the .4862 server version. No help. I don’t have any guide data, so I think what I already downloaded is what I was seeing. SO NO GUIDE DATA now. Please help.

Perhaps another hint - when I was trying to download the log files via the Plex UI via the Troubleshooting option, what I got was an empty zip file. But I do have log files, and I grabbed the server file via the DSM file manager. Perhaps there is an access issue?

Any thoughts?

No luck here either. I finally removed and installed a fresh server and now when I go to add my tuners to the DVR it gives me an error of “There was a problem saving your DVR. Please try again.” When I hit the back button the tuner is now gone from the list of available options and won’t show up again. I tried manually adding it through the ip address and it gives another error saying it can’t add the tuner. I’m now stuck without any tuners and no way of adding them.

Can you please go to general settings of server and make sure Debug Logging is enabled/checked (Do not enable Verbose). Then After restarting server and trying to refresh guide can you please go to Settings>Troubleshooting, hit the Download Logs button. and upload the entire zip file that downloads. (If your web browser is set to open files automatically I suggest turning that off)

If you can please do not have movies playing or other things going on when reproducing.

I stopped Plex, restarted the DSM server, restarted Plex, and let it run for about 10 minutes. Debug logging is enabled. When I downloaded the logs I get a zip file that 1kb - it’s empty. I have attached that file and my own download / zip of the most recent logs that seemed to be new.
Plex Media Server (2).zip (57.3 KB)
Plex Media Server Databases_2018-07-11_15-15-16.zip (22 Bytes)

hopefully this is helpful. I really appreciate the help.

I see there is another new version of the server - 4881. Should I upgrade to that? Don’t want to create a moving target for troubleshooting.

Thanks.

I would try it.

I did the upgrade - right now it looks the same, but I’ll give it some time before making the call on success or fail.

Unfortunately I am still at the same place - Initializing Refreshing Guide Data (0%) after 9 hours of restart. I have no Guide data and so my Plex server is mostly just a brick. Please help. Are there troubleshooting guides that I can use to try go through logs to find the cause? I have not found anything that actually makes the logs useful to a layman.

  1. Delete the DVR
  2. Stop Plex
  3. Delete the 3 files if they still exists: /volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/tv.plex.providers.epg.*
  4. Start Plex
  5. Add DVR

Also you need to fix whatever is going on with this directory “/volume1/Plex/tmp_transcoding/”.

Jul 16, 2021 10:45:29.864 [0x3101bd48] ERROR - Couldn't copy file "/volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs/Plex Media Server.log" to "/volume1/Plex/tmp_transcoding/tempLogs328839c4-21d7-43a8-9645-942f9dab26fd/Plex Media Server.log": Invalid argument

I followed these steps as best as possible. Notes for each step follow.

  1. No solid indication that the DVR was deleted as it seemed to stay busy Initializing. moved on to step 2
  2. No problem
  3. found 6 files with this name - deleted (moved) all 6.
  4. restarted fine - no problem
  5. Unable to add DVR - can’t find my HDHomeRun by IP or name. The HDHomerun is alive and well - I can ping it and use it from Windows PC, all on the same switch. planning to stop and restart the Plex server another time just to see what happens.

With regard to the Error “couldn’t copy file” - I don’t know why as yet. The user “plex” has full control to both the source and destination folders. I manually created the tempLogs… folder manually as a test - it worked. I did notice in the log slightly before the error that the Authenticated user is not plex - it is PatDollard56. That is not a user on my Synology NAS. Should it be? It would be helpful to know what the invalid argument was.

Followup note.
After second restart of plex media server - still can’t set up DVR. It is stuck in Tuner Setup. The Logfile does indicate that it is finding the HDHomerun. Maybe i was too hasty moving on to Step 2??

So what next? Uninstall / reinstall. ??
Can’t tell if we are making progress just yet.

Attaching the server log again.
Plex Media Server (3).log (216.9 KB)

In this directory should be backups of the main Plex database with dates. Shutdown Plex and rename the current to backup and the last backup to the current. Start Plex up and see if the DVR is there again. If it will then complete a guide refresh you should be ok, if not remove it and wait at least 3 minutes before re-adding. Which NAS is this?
