Ok, so is someone from Plex going to fix the LiveTV issues?? this is my 3rd post regarding it. I have provided all the logs you’ll ever want. The LiveTV was working fine on PMS version 1.13.8.5388, and now its been broken since. Try to tune a channel and all i get is a spinning wheel for eternity…
Setup is: Nvidia Shield 16GB as PMS, ATV4 (tvOS) as Plex client, HDhomerun Duo as Tuner, All hardwired.
I have tried deleting and setup a new DVR, turn on/off hardware acceleration. I have also tried using my macbook as a PMS (also w/ ver: 1.13.9.5456) and that works!!
It appears to be an issue with Shield as PMS and ATV4 as client, if i use the web client, it appears to work.
Can i get someone from Plex to look into this?? Are others having issues with Shield as PMS and liveTV?? below are some new logs AGAIN!!
Same issue on my side. None of my iOS devices would play live TV (applets’s, iPhones). I reverted to version 1.13.8.5395 and all works well again (and I’ve now turned off auto updates).
For reverting to older version, at least on windows, all older versions are stored in ‘…AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates’ - just uninstall the old version through control panel (all settings remain intact) and install the desired package. It’s pretty quick, but it would be nice if automated.
I have a similar issue and it’s driving me nuts. I’m using PMS on Nvidia Shield and live TV refuses to load on my iPad when connected to WiFi (same spinning wheel). When I disconnect from WiFi and use the cell network for internet it will load.
I was slow to update my iPad to 12.1 from 11.xx and didn’t do so until last week. Prior to updating I didn’t have any issues, but now Live TV doesn’t load like it used to. I even went as far as resetting both my iPad and Nvidia Shield and adding/deleting tuners.
I will note the following:
My husband’s iPad has not been updated and live TV works fine, both on WiFi and cell network
I was able to access Live TV via another network in a different home on my iPad
I’ve tried with both HDHomerun and Hauppauge
HDHomerun app works perfectly
No issues on my Android phone (OnePlus 6T, running 9)
Adjusted playback settings/quality and nothing
This is pretty annoying and I wish it would be fixed. I quit DTV Now (grandfathered plan) since we were really only watching channels that are available with an antenna, which we have on our TVs. Plex was a good solution as it allowed me to watch recordings and live TV on my iPad all within one app. Now I have to use two apps for this.
Yeah, I’m not able to downgrade either. I tried to uninstall updates and even signed up for beta too, but no luck. Unfortunately the update that came out today didn’t help either.
I tried today’s update as well. It still doesn’t stream live tv to my iOS or tvOS devices. It’s got a new error message though, that tells recording failed; check my tuner or antenna. I have HDHomeRun cablecard with Comcast and it works fine - I’m watching it right now through the instaTV app instead of Plex. I’ll probably downgrade Plex back to the last working version tomorrow.
I downgraded to version 1.13.8.5395 on my shield and this resolved the issue on my iOS devices. You can download the apk from here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/plex-inc/plex-media-server/. I had to uninstall my current version of Plex media server on the shield before I could downgrade as it appears one is not allowed to install an earlier version over a more current version. This caused a slight inconvenience as I had to set up my server again since all saved my configurations were wiped out after I did the uninstall.
So PMS has been updated 3 times now (2 betas, 1 full release) since the complaints came out and still no fix. PMS is still broken and no LiveTV with PMS on Shield w/ either iOS or tvOS.
Somebody please fix or at least address there is an issue, its been almost 2 months and I have been able to watch any Live TV!!!
I gave up on Plex. I bought a Tablo and now am enjoying live TV again. When Plex was working it was great. It seems that the company does not care to acknowledge they have a issue with live tv.
Many people are experiencing this problem. We have no way to know if the Plex team is reading this or cares. I guess we can try to help each other - this is clearly a bug with server versions newer than 1.13.8.5395 - downgrading to that version seems to be the only solution for now. Plex may or may not ever fix it. Who knows. I already paid for the lifetime Plex pass so I’m stuck dealing with it.
Good news is - HDHomeRun app works well on my iPhone and I have the InstaTV app on the Apple TV. Recording shows on Plex works fine and watching back a recorded show works fine.
Yes I am having the same issue with latest PMS 1.14 on an ASUSTOR 6404T. Was working perfectly on 1.13. Now no live TV, just a spinning disc when trying to watch on iPAD or iPhone both on iOS 12.
Further to previous e mail this problem appears to be fixed if using 4G on iPhone and iPad but returns when switching back to local 2.4G or 5G WIFI networks at home on the same devices but does work when using a PC chrome browser on the same network at home. Most strange -definitely appears to be an iOS compatibility issue with PMS 1.14 on home LANs but not WANs. Lets hope its fixed soon as using 4G is expensive to stream video.
I wonder then when on WiFi if you change the quality settings on the client app if that will result in what PMS is doing when you’re on cell (reduce the quality, forcing it to transcode).
