My DVR series recording have stopped working, for all but 2 shows. I look at the DVR schedule and it says no new episodes are upcoming. When I go to the guide I can see them clearly. I tried scheduling a single episode and it worked fine, just the series recordings aren’t working. I have tried refreshing the tuner and the Plex guide with no change. Any one see this?
I’ve had the same problem. Last series recording was on 6/10/2020. No shows from that series recorded since then, in spite of my best efforts to make sure the computer was logged in, and even trying PMS as a Service. Now I seem to have an additional error, reference The device does not tune the required channel
I noticed this after I noticed that the DVR series recording stopped. Looks like two separate, unrelated problems, with probably the same effect.
This is with PMS for Windows 10, literally just installed the latest version Version 1.19.5.3112 minutes ago, so let’s see if this fixes it.
Interesting. As it is summer I don’t have many new recordings, but I specifically set one up for yesterday and was surprised when it wasn’t available today.
I am using the official Plex Docker container. It had an update that I did today, but no change in this behavior. Tried setting up a new series recording and it didn’t do anything. Not sure where to even start looking in the logs for something this specific. Everything else is great, and the DVR has been great up to now.
Would need logs with debug enabled captured during the period of expected recording (near the beginning) and again 10 minutes after expected end of recording - and when uploading logs zip - an indication as to what was supposed to record and when and on what channel number and name
Oops, I left Firefox open to PMS. That might affect the non-recording as it appears to be recording at the moment. Here’s the logfile. Plex Media Server Logs_2020-07-22_22-03-03.zip (1.5 MB)
Series recording every Wednesday 10:00pm SHIELD on channel 7.1 ABC.
Plex is configured for scheduled maintenance daily 2am-5am.
Why would I disable hibernation so the PC runs 24/7 for a once a week recording? I expect that Plex DVR works like any other commercial DVR, and can wake itself up for a scheduled recording. I thought Plex used to work that way when I first started using it, but maybe I’m remembering wrong.
I do have the wake on magic packet enabled, works quite well. If I open the Plex app on my iPhone then the HTPC “server” wakes up like expected.
I too seem to have this problem.
Little yellow round exclamation point appears on the item in the DVR Schedule. But the channel guide is fine. And if I go into the guide and select that channel it plays fine.
I refreshed the channel guide, re-scanned the channels, and rebooted. None of that helped.
Not sure if it’s coincidence or not, but I noticed it when I started using Plex Media Server as a Service. That’s a whole separate discussion why… Duplicate / multiple servers keep appearing
I haven’t tried to rollback to an older version like @warham30 mentioned.
It’s a series recording for SHIELD, every Wednesday night at 10:00pm, channel 7.1 ABC.
But now, after making this post, letting the computer go to sleep, waking it back up and re-opening PMS the exclamation point is gone. I did take the screenshot after updating to the latest version 1.19.5.3112.
Without this, your EPG will be way out of date and periodic checks on schedule of recordings may not run
The only day you allowed the PC to be alive during scheduled tasks window was on the 16th of July
In the absence of scheduled tasks running to do the EPG refresh, a refresh would be done on relaunch of Plex Media Server if no refresh was done in last 24 hours.
The last relaunch of Plex Media Server before 22nd July was on the 16th July - so the EPG data was way out of date when it came to need to record your daily episodes and those episodes were probably not in the EPG
Please disable sleep options for the PC including network card
I don’t know what is EPG data. Plex is configured to run scheduled tasks daily from 2am to 5am. This appears to work because the guide always seems to be up to date.
How can you tell if the gaps are because the computer was asleep, or if because PMS wasn’t running? Microsoft has a nasty habit of forcing Windows updates, and a reboot. If I don’t realize that happened, and log in to the Admin account on the machine, PMS won’t even run. That’s why I recently started using PMS as a Service. I got tired of my wife complaining that Plex doesn’t work and then I’d have to login to the Admin account to get it working again.
Magic packet wake on network is enabled, and works quite well. If I open the Plex app on my iPhone it wakes up the HTPC server.
I expect that Plex DVR works like any “normal” commercial DVR, such as from AT&T or Dish Network where device will sleep, and then wake up for a scheduled recording.
A server doesn’t need to run all the time. It only needs to run on demand, when there is activity. This is also how my Synology NAS works. If I access it, then it wakes up. If I don’t need it, then it happily sleeps, saving electricity. I expect that Plex would function the same way.

Logs Attached.
Server Version is 1.19.5.3112. Server is the Official Plex Docker on Ubuntu 18.04.
Logs are from about 30 minutes after a show was scheduled to be recorded.
I also see shows that don’t list upcoming episodes, but if I search for them the guide does list shows upcoming. These same recordings have been in place for over a year.
