Hi guys…i would like to use the Plex DVR Function as well. I also live in Switzerland and tried to find out on the internet how it works. I couldn’t find informations which would help me so i thought iā€˜ll try it on this thread.
Does it work with Swisscom as well or just with Cablecom?
Thanks for the help guys.

Hi Snigg,
I would like get rid of the Horizon box and use my Mac Mini to watch TV, still with my current subscription at UPC, along the Hue Sync App with Philips lights. In the future I may switch to Swisscom too. I think HDHomeRun EXPAND could be a good solution. Do you experience any limitations with Plex,HDHomeRun EXPAND and cable connection combined? Any issues regarding signal decryption through wall socket considering the fact I already have subscription at UPC Cablecom? Do you know any seller of HDHomeRun EXPAND in Switzerland or Amazon Germany is the place to go?
Thanks in advance.

Hi
well I do have the HDHomeRun 4DC and it kind of works but there are limitations. Some of them might be possible to overcome but as I do not use TV extensively I stopped looking:

  • I only have unencrypted channels
  • TV streaming via the Plex Webinterface does not work. But with the Plex App it does
  • Switching language in live TV does not work. But in the recordings the tracks are there and selectable.
  • I use UPC (basic). I don’t think that SwissCom TV is in anyway compatible with a HDHomeRun box. If anything then SwissCom should work directly with Plex as it already is IP based. But I have no experience with SwissCom TV.

As the UPC basic is kind of available without any extra cost, I like it as an addition to my Plex System. I am almost certain that having the encrypted channels is not possible in a legal way. It is absolutely possible with the help of a Linux TV Server (and regular key updates). But I wanted something that just works.
Not sure if that was of any help. You may ask specific questions but as you see my setup is kind of ā€œtrivialā€.
By the way. Last time I checked you need a plex pass to have the TV option working. This may have changed but better check upfront.

Is there a instruction somewhere of how to connect to UPC?

Is it difficult?

What do I need?
