Hi There
I am running plex 1.7.5.4035-313f93718 on synology DSM 6.1.3-15152 update 1.
I am trying to connect plex to a silicondust HDHomerun Model: HDHR3-DT Firmware: 20130226beta1
When I start the DVR setup process plex cannot ‘find’ the HDHomerun through the automatic search.
When I manually add the HDHomerun’s IP address I receive the error message "There was a problem adding the device: X.X.X.X.
Checking the List of support devices it shows “all models” as compatble with the Plex DVR feature.
Please advise why this isn’t working / and or what I can do to get it working.
Thanks
RW
Have you checked for new firmware for the device? I have the HDHR3-US (Dual) with firmware 20161117 which is recognized by Plex.
Great suggestion, thanks.
Just updated to firmware version 20161117.
Still receiving the same error.
Other than restarting the HDHR and the NAS (or at least restarting the Plex software) not sure what else I would suggest. Sorry but I don’t have a Synology NAS. My HDHR Dual was picked up automatically by Plex when they first released support for all HDHR devices.
I’ve restarted the HDHR, installed plex on Linux and my various nas devices, and get the same error. M
I was able to detect and add it using a lex install on windows this evening.
If anyone has any suggestions on where to from here I’d be grateful for the advice. Is there somewhere in the plex logs I can look and see what is going wrong?
A netork issue? A firewall issue?
I’m having the same issue using plex from a freenas system. I installed Plex on my desktop PC and detected the HDHR and worked fine. but I can’t get it to work from the plex on my freenas.

I’m in the same boat. I also have an HDHR3-US that I can not get working with Plex DVR as well. I’m running the latest linux version and I’ve updated the firmware on the Homerun device. But I keep getting the same error “There was a problem adding the device”
It would be nice if there was a more descriptive error message? Or if someone can help us out and suggest something else to try other than updating things?
Have you tried running hdhomerun_config --discover from the plex server?
Anyone else still having this issue, or able to solve it? I had run the beta software for this since its release, everything worked great. Didn’t use it over the summer, but tried adding new shows for this fall, wasn’t able to (so somewhere along the line, one of the updates stopped it from working?). Plex was asking to setup DVR again; when i click on “SET UP PLEX DVR” it jsut continues to cycle as if looking for the HDHOMERUN but never stops. I enter the address in manually and returns a message of “There was a problem adding the device”. I know the HDHOMERUN is working properly as I also have the “channels” app on my AppleTV that access it and works perfectly, as well as able to access LiveTV on my PC directly through it no problem. It is only Plex that can not access it, therefor the DVR functionality is missing. NOt sure if there is a way to reinstall without losing everything or what. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!
I’m new to plex but have the official plexmediaserver docker container running. Everything is working well but I noticed the DVR and tried to set it up since I have a HDHR. I am getting the same issues. I click on the setup and it just spins and spins.
If I click the add manually I get “There was a problem adding the device: 192.168.1.172”. Inside the container I can connect to the HDHR(via curl) so I’m pretty sure the network is not the issue. In the logs I get :
SAT2IP - discover_satip_servers(): no servers found
v4l::DeviceGetList_impl. getting v4l device list
onetv_factory::DeviceGetListEx >>
onetv_factory::DeviceGetListEx. libusb_init returned an error -99
web_service_t::process_device_discovery
device_reactor_t::get_device_list ()
dvb_device_factory_t::get_device_list ()
Repeating…
Any ideas?

Same issue here. I can access the HD Homerun directly via IP address, but Plex cannot access it or find it with the latest version. It was working great till I upgraded my Plex software to the latest version.
I noticed you posted your message 6 days ago and nobody replied. Seems to be this is not really a product support forum, but just a place for all of us to list the bugs and support each other.

FWIW I had the same and planned to restart the plex service on Linux but took the time to update to 1.13.8.5395 and now it works. I am not sure if it was the restart or the update, but the error is gone for me.
