DVR totally unreliable. 80% are partials recording(3-16 mins!)

Plex DVR has become completely unreliable lately. Almost all the recording failed with only 3 to 16 mins recording only(for 30-60 mins shows.) It seems like it is recording the whole episode, but in the post processing it gives us only a few minutes as recorded. I have attached the logs in the hope that something is showed in there. But I’d like to mention that the way to -try- to contact support is incredibly frustrating. Of all the bugs I have faced and posted on the forums, none were ever answered.

Same here.
I have to even fix the channel and airing time if there are multiple reruns (which is also a pain because you have to manually match the first channel and airing time as every channel and time is showed in an arbitrary order).
I just missed two recordings because on the calendar they were scheduled like they will record on the first airing time today at 12PM but came two hours later to see them re-scheduled to be recorded on Thursday and Friday afternoon!!

Sometimes it even shows like the show is recording but then it is stuck at 100% for hours just to see that they failed and there is a partial airing like OP or no recording at all. I have to restart PMS everyday so this doesn’t happen so often.

PMS Version 1.14.1.5488

I am having the same issue. Mine appears to be only shows recorded on a specific channel. The channel is fine on the tv so it is not an antenna issue.

Running plex on an oxdroid hc2 and an hdhomerun connect.

Glad to see that once more, support came to help. * sarcasm *
I found out that the show actually seemed to record fully, but that the cutting problem seemed to happen in the post-processing. So I wondered what happened in the post-processing… ads removal. So I turned off the ad-skipping feature and, well, no more partial recording. I get the ads, but at least I also get the full episode. So it seems plex has big problems detecting what is an ads and what is not and actually cut the episode itself, thinking it’s an ad?

Anyway, the DVR and live-tv features are full of small bugs and I can see now that it’s useless trying to report them. As such I’ve cancelled the automatic renewal and did the only thing left to me, and it’s to write to the only email we have access to(blilling) to tell them that I won’t spend another cent on plex until they setup some kind of tickets system that guarantees we are not losing our times reporting bugs.

This has been happening to me as of within the last couple weeks. Have yet to have a recording actually work. Have tried re-setting the recording options, doing a series, just one, etc!

It has started happening to me too in the last few days.

I am having the same problem. It is frustrating to no end, as all my recordings are not ever reairing. So I’m forced to sit here and find alternative be ways to manually download files. This has gotten insanely bad in the last few weeks. I have been applying updates the moment they are available in the hopes that it will be fixed. If anything, it’s WORSE. come on Plex, get with it please. Just had everything I recorded this evening show up as partials. Different stations, different amounts of recorded time. None completed

This is a very big issue for me as well. My recordings almost never complete. I generally have to be available (remotely) in case the recording fails so I can start the recording again. The issue there is Plex won’t let me start the recording again if the partially-recorded file is still seen by Plex, so I first have to move the file to somewhere where Plex doesn’t look and then start the recording again. Which is a huge hassle, since I’m generally doing it on my phone. The other issue is I’m not notified when the recording fails, so I have to keep an eye on Plex just to know that it failed.

It would be nice if Plex automatically attempted to resume failed recordings (at some time interval, maybe retry every 30 seconds) until the end of the recording window.

Is there a way to try out a different code or algorithm for cutting commercials?

Same problem. I only have 2 or 3 episodes recording but it consistently fails to record any of the episodes.

I have turned off commercial skip entirely and still have this issue

I also have this issue. Extremely frustrating. Recordings will start, but then will cut off after a few minutes. When watching live through Plex it usually works fine or will occasionally give an error message about disconnecting from the source. When watching from the HDHomeRun it works 100% flawlessly.

Indeed, the problem is back this week even though the “remove commercial” feature has been turned off months ago here. And I can see that “support” really takes this matter at heart, not having replied to anyone having the issue. What good is a DVR that doesn’t record reliably? You’d think that would be high on the fix list… Spamming the inbox with Tidal seems to be of a much higher priority to them.

I gave up on plex being serious with their dvr offering, my sub runs out in 3 months so I’m currently trying Silicon Dust dvr.

I too have trouble with Plex DVR only recording 8 minutes of a show. I bought the HDHomeRun many year ago with a discount for being a Plex Pass customer. I never got an antenna till today and hooked it up. Very excited I told my wife who instantly told me to record a cooking show for her…Only 8 minutes of the 30 minute show recorded. It was fully in the memory before it recorded to the storage folder because in testing I started it on many TVs in my house and it started from the beginning of the show with out issue. The DVR works fine as long as the show is on the air…As soon as it’s off the air the recording becomes a partial when moved to the Recorded TV Library.

Do you have Commercial Skip running after the program finishes recording? Maybe your ComSkip settings need to be tweaked because it’s cutting too much of the show? Like maybe it recognized up to the first commercial break and cut everything after?
