Edit MKV Metadata

The possibility, with admin rights, to edit the metadata of MKV files.

Keep in mind that Plex has a long-standing policy not to touch/change your files.
If this is about having a local copy of the metadata (e.g. in case your Plex gets corrupted)… you might want to look into [REL] Lambda (Local Assets-Metadata Double Agent) for Plex Metadata export)

Sorry, but that is not (completely) true.
PLEX does not use MKV metadata to feed media descriptions into library management. But uses this information on playback to identify the audio and subtitle languages, as well as the forced subtitle indication (to display subtitles only when there is a switch to another language).

PLEX allows to delete files (with admin control).
My problem is that since I installed my PLEX server in the clouds, I no longer have direct access to my files. being forced to download and reload my files after corrections is long and tedious.

Can’t you ssh into your cloud server and change metadata that way?

Adding the functionality in Plex to delete files was a huge mistake and should’ve never been implemented, I hope they remove that ASAP, it’s a disaster waiting to happen.

Does it display the names of those tracks yet?

Yes of course. But precisely, sometimes the metadata information of the MKV is wrong, especially the forced subtitles for films with passages in foreign languages.
but hey, I can actually connect in SSH server, I will study the use of MKVToolNix command line. (or an equivalent: someone to give me advice?)

Early 2021 clean-up: aside of Plex’ long-standing position not to touch/change local files, this is a duplicate
