Edit of media in Library not reflected in collections

I recently decided to change my personal sorting technique. For example, removing pronouns like ‘the’ from the sort function. So, after making the changes in my library I reviewed my collections only to find chaos. Even though I never edited the collection tag field. Additionally, if I edit while in the collection interface it doesn’t take.
Please advise or fix.

Saying it is “chaos” does not help know what is going on. Can you please take a screenshot.

how did you do that?

Additionally, when trying to edit the collection tag the pop-up is incorrectly sized and if one tries to scroll down the entry is cleared.

By clicking on the ‘pencil’ in the lower left corner of any media icon.

and then changing the ‘sort field’. like so:

it then broke my ‘Matrix’ collection. putting ‘The Matrix’ in one and the other 2 in another. Unfortunately, I already fixed this by deleting the 2 collections and then re-editing the collection tag for all 3. as such:

but, before I deleted and changed all 3 movies still had ‘Matrix’ as their collection tags.

I don’t really understand what your end goal is.

it also did this for ‘the hunger games’ and ‘the avengers’ movies. sorry i fixed already by deleting the collections.
additionally, a couple other collections lost media that was in their collection.
ie. i had both tron’s and now i only have 1, in the collection. (collection of 1??? cmon!! hahaha)

my goal was making it so that when looking through my library for media i would go to ‘M’ NOT ‘T’ to find ‘THE MATRIX’. somehow, by changing the ‘sort field’ entry a bunch of movies had their ‘collection tag’ field disturbed. that seems like an error/bug to me, don’t you agree they shouldn’t affect one another?

So, here is an example collection:

notice how Tron has only ONE movie.
Now, let’s look in my library…

These used to be BOTH in the collection named ‘TRON’.
wtf happened??

My ‘Marvel’ Collection had 25 movies… now it’s at 20.
Again, I NEVER edited the ‘collection tag’ field.
Does this make sense?

Plex already automatically ignores the article and sorts by M. when adding a movie like The Matrix by default.

There is zero needed to do to accomplish this.

being that you have THE_MATRIX as a title. either Plex never matched it in the first place or you have MP4’s or M4V’s with embedded Metadata probably from whatever program ripped the file

Nope, it is sorting by ‘M’ because you have ‘Matrix’ entered…
Put ‘The Matrix’ in that field and you get it sorted under ‘T’
I believe there was an auto setting in the server that may drop pronouns but i didn’t like it. I am manually doing it.

You have ‘The Matrix’ in the TITLE field not in SORT. I am talking about the SORT field.

Still, none of this should cross contaminate my ‘collections’ field don’t you agree?

why. what benefit do you think you are gaining by having the sort title be Matrix, The rather than Matrix being that is seen absolutely no where except the sort title field.

I still have no idea what your end goal is.

I do the same for ‘The Lord of the Rings’… becomes, ‘Lord of the Rings, The’.
Additionally, the full title becomes ‘Lord of the Rings, The-The Two Towers’.
Is this just blowing your mind? How about instead of questioning WHY i would want to sort MY media the way i want to you address the REAL issue which is:
WHY DOES CHANGING THE SORT FIELD CORRUPT MY COLLECTION FIELD?
(i have asked you this 3 times and you keep going back to ‘why would you change your sort to include the full given name a movie blah blah blah?’
you are focusing on the WRONG topic

my end goal is to sort my media the way i want to. if you are saying the sort doesn’t work like that then how does it work? why is it editable? what is its point?

I already said it is likely because it was never matched in the first place, which I am guessing because you have titles like THE_MATRIX which plex would never match to except for embedded metadata. being that the server might not think it matches is probably adding things to like field like it would when it completes an initial match

I just changed multiple sorts titles and i did not affect my collection with those titles at all.
