I use my Apple TV with a stereo pair of HomePods, setup in Apple’s Home Theater mode. This means that it streams audio to the HomePods via AirPlay 2 by default. Whenever I play something in Plex there is quite a severe audio delay when pausing or resuming playback, or when skipping or seeking. This problem is not observed in other apps (iTunes, Netflix) or when using the TV’s builtin speakers. Note that I am specifically talking about the Plex app on the Apple TV: I am not interested in streaming content from a phone or other device to the TV, this is the native app.
I’m no expert on AirPlay integration, but Apple claims some work is needed especially for AirPlay 2’s “enhanced buffering”: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/avfoundation/media_playback_and_selection/getting_airplay_2_into_your_app
Please consider adding support for AirPlay 2’s features into the Plex Apple TV app: it would dramatically improve playback pause and resume, as well as seeking and skipping.
