Lag in starting/pausing/ending airplay playback on SONOS

Server Version#: 1.18.0.1846
Player Version#: 2.7 (1)

Hi

I use an Apple-TV and a pair of SONOS One (paired as stereo) for watching movies.

The speakers are connected using Airplay2 to the Apple-TV.

Whenever I start playing something, there is a delay of a few seconds before the sound starts playing. Whenever I stop playing something, there is again a delay of a few seconds before the sound stops playing.

This is not an issue with Infuse player, which works flawlessly.

Hi all

The problem persists also after the tvOS 13.2 update in case anyone is interested.

In the meantime Infuse, of course, works flawlessly.

Hi again

The issue persists with tvOS 13.3.

Infuse still works great.

Is there no interest in improving Plex for AppleTV?

Is this with the enhanced player enabled? If so, try disabling it. The enhanced player is not currently compliant with AirPlay 2.

Thanks Darcilious, you are right once more.

Unfortunately, this does not solve my problem, because the vanilla player does not play mkv files without transcoding, and because Plex does not really support VAAPI for HW acceleration my server is not strong enough to transcode (see my other threads with ChuckPA).

Any idea on when the vanilla player will be improved, or the experimental player will support Airplay properly?

That’s an Apple thing, Plex has no control over the native player.

No, sorry, though the devs are aware of the need. I believe it has something to do with mpv and the version that Plex currently incorporates…

Thanks Darcilious for the competent and quick responce, I guess this covers it then.

I have to say its very disappointing as a Plex customer that it takes 2 months to arrive at this insight. Moreover, in the end there is no actual solution after all other than a reference to unclear developer prioritization.
