Enhancement to allow for enable/disable of 3rd party reviews in the Roku client

I own the movies, I ripped them, I uploaded them into my library, I know if I like them. I do not need a 3rd party’s opinions filling up 1/3 of my screen spewing what some unknown and untrusted reviewers think about them. Same with my clothes, I don’t need some stranger hanging out in my closet telling me what they think about my clothing choices.

You can’t do it from the Roku, but you can do it through Plex Web. Edit the Library, go to the Advanced tab, and uncheck the Album Reviews option. Then re-scan the library. If the re-scan doesn’t clear the reviews, you may have to do the Plex Dance.

Album Reviews don’t apply to movies, though.

Derrp! I’ve been so focused on music metadata testing lately, I missed that.

Good to know about the music arena though, thank you.

The title of this enhancement request should be updated to include the other Plex client applications on other platforms such as the Amazon Fire TV Stick and the Nvidia Shield, as well as I believe the Apple TV. I did not want to create a separate feature request, although I was considering doing so.

These Rotten Tomato Reviews show up unwanted and really detract from the whole experience. The reason that I got Plex was to organize my own media, not invite people to judge my choices or tastes, especially critics. You know there are some movies where the audience loves it but the critics hate it. By adding these Rotten Tomato reviews in the TV clients, it detracts from the entire Plex experience, it can just ruin the movie, and it can make me not even want to watch a movie that I purchased.

I am not talking about the ratings source for the reviews rating. I am talking only about the actual snippets of critic reviews that show up in the client apps on the TV. I do not want to refresh my metadata for my whole library changing agents, because I’ve spent lots of time organizing and customizing, as was suggested in another solution to disable metadata sources to prevent these reviews from populating. I saw another workaround that involves manually editing the XML files however this did not seem to work successfully for me in all cases.

Please seriously have the option to disable this, preferably from the Web server.

There have been other requests for this in the forums.

I want this gone too, it’s extremely obnoxious. I couldn’t care less about what some random rotten tomatoes reviewer felt the need to chime about, and I’m yet to see a single person say they actually DO want this…it’s an awful “feature” and removal NEEDS to be an option

There are so many mentions of this topic, do PLEX dev people even read these posts?

Voted. This really needs to be a thing. The reviews are obnoxious. I’d like to think that the devs are considering these suggestions, but with how many times it gets brought up without acknowledgement, I’m starting to doubt it. Just like the pleas to add cast info in the Android TV app, it seems to fall on deaf ears.

Also would like to be able to remove worthless Rotten Tomatoes Reviews from my Plex. Rotten Tomatoes has been exposed as just a shill for Hollywood and are no longer relevant anyway.

nope. just me.

Just me I’m sorrry to say.

Yes it’s really annoying and useless to force a “Plex Movie” Scanner which matches better but at the same time we will be forced to take the “advertisement” even we paid for a PlexPass.

Even it’s completely nonsense to force englisch reviews when you don’t understand this language at all. Probably Rotten Tomatoes will pay more then we do because it would be a really easy thing to do a checkbox for disable it.

Rotten Tomatoes hates every movie I own and I wish I could shut them up for good but PLEX will not cooperate.

Let’s merge this into the general request/suggestion to allow admins/users to disable reviews for their clients or media in general.

While this thread has been around 1 year longer, the other one has collected approx. 4x the votes. So in order to avoid further distracting the attention and gain the full attention it deserves, I’m going to close this one.
(apologies for the inconvenience… I hope all voters will comment/vote in the sibling thread)
