EPG data download error Australia

Server Version#: 1.40.4.8679
Player Version#:
Tuner Make/Model: wintv-hvr-22xx
Guide/Lineup name:
Scratching my head over this issue, I replaced the server, so a fresh windows 2022 server, fresh install of plex, moved the capture cards in, but for the life of me I cant pull in the epg data.
The FTA channels play ok, tuners worked in the old server, but not the new.

I get this:
Message
[Req#109f4] EPG: received HTTP response of 502 from request to https://epg.provider.plex.tv/grid/bulk?channelGridKey=5fc706082f220e002d5e6c4e&endDate=2024-08-14&startDate=2024-08-08&X-Plex-Language=en&X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Dont know if its something I am doing wrong, looking for ideas.

I have tried selecting the Fetch - hobart, foxtel-hobart, freeview-hobart, local broadcast listings, all producing the same results.

Pretty sure it just worked on the old server too.

putting in the url to a browser:

Australia is not on the list of supported regions. Theere are no EPG data available for unsupported regions.
You will have to use an alternate source for your EPG data in XMLTV format.

Hey Otto,

I blew it all away, and tried with an old version, that produced the same results, back to the new, and it has managed to populate some shows. Not sure how its done this!

btw it was on the local broadcast listings that it managed to populate some data.

I dont understand what the difference is between local broadcast, freeview, foxtel and fetch, as they all seem to bomb out trying to access epg.provider.plex.tv (aside when it seems to start working…)

Pretty sure it was all happily working on the old server too without external data. I might need to fire it back up and check out what the settings were i guess, but it also might be helpful to understand what the different options all do

I’m getting the same error. It’s been working seemlessly for months so why now is it broken and why is it unsupported?

frustrating. It broke Wednesday morning Australian time, and then it resolved briefly for me and then it broke again.

I found a solution. host your own epg guide if you’re on unraid. the site abc.net.au has the epg guide for all australian locations.

there are a couple docker containers for it. O-Mutt/docker-iptv-org-epg (github.com)

I haven’t tried it myself.

I’m having the same issue in Sweden. EPG initialize up to 48% and then return Bad Gateway (http 502).

I would have two suggested changes for the EPG.

  1. Don’t discard downloaded EPG information. Just show unkown where EPG information is missing, and display the downloaded information in the guide.
  2. Do a date check (through one API call) if records have been updated, so you can do partial update requests instead of downloading it all every time.

Well I went with a external source and its seems to be behaving.

Some clarity about all the different options would be nice, I would have assumed picking something like foxtel, stan, or the like, would download the guide from foxtel, but from what I can see all EPG data comes from plex, and is (randomly) broken unless your in a supported region.

thanks to all!

Same problem. Guide has been working fine and sometime this week the guide stopped updating automatically and won’t refresh manually. Using NAS and HDHomeRun. HDHomeRun guide is fine, its only a problem on Plex. I hadn’t made any changes here to server and I’m on the latest plex versions both server and client apps.

Tried disconnecting the DVR and reconnecting. Its an HDHomeRun Flex Quatro. Now I have “unknown airing” across the entire guide. Checked HDHomeRun directly and guide is available on HDHomeRun. It does look like a Plex problem.
