Hi guys
What happened to the proper guide for above? It’s so hard to win spousal acceptance without it available on my shield TV and I know you were working on it months ago. Wifey has no interest in looking by programme rather than by channel/station
I’ve just signed up to the beta program so hopefully it is still on there?!
Hope someone can help!
When you got to Live TV do you see an option for Channels below the On Right Now?
Well don’t I feel stupid re the NVIDIA shield thank you. I was looking for something saying program guide or EPG and didn’t even look there.
Will this be coming to android mobile/tablets as I had a look just then and don’t see that as an option on my phone at least…
Thanks for the quick response too
Until something is pushed out try using the HDHR viewer plugin which provides some for of an EPG on all clients.
Just Google HDHR viewer…
Will that also work with Haupagge winTV tuner that I’m using or only for the HDHomerun stuff?
Oh yeah sorry it is for HDHR only sorry about that…
The Grid View is not currently on Android Mobile. From the Program Guide Support Article the Grid View is currently available on:
- Android TV
- Apple TV
- iOS
- Plex Web App
- Roku (preview release)
Hi there
Are there plans for this to come to the android phone/tablet/box formats as I’m sure there would be great demand…I’ve got a box on one of my other TVs which would benefit from it greatly! Would it be hard to implement as the shield already has and that’s Android based?
Thank you
No worries nokdim appreciate the response nonetheless
As mentioned in the Support Article I linked above, Plex will be bringing the Grid view to other platforms.
Hi
Yep I saw that thank you. I guess I was more wondering about a time frame…the future is a long time haha. I know you wouldn’t like to be drawn on specifics but would this half of 2019 be a probability maybe?
The Channels app has a grid guide on both Android TV and Android tablets/phones
The channels app??
That would be great if the user had HDHR devices. Read posts above.
I don’t work for Plex so while I get to see some new features before users get access to them during beta testing of releases we aren’t generally alerted well in advance as to what is currently being worked on for release. Plex in the past generally does not release timelines for development, the one time they tried to appease users, for the gird guide view actually, it wound up taking longer than they had planned and were seriously chastised by the user base on the forums for missing the deadline. So I wouldn’t count on Plex releasing a development timeline for new features.
No problem and just wanted to say I appreciate the support. 3 diff mods on this new thread is amazing to take the time to reply so much appreciated for all 3 responses. Have signed up for the beta program so hopefully there’ll be something in that in the future
Thanks again, I did assume you worked for Plex so apologies for that, and thanks again for the responses
The channels grid colors bright white on white requires me to get up close to tv and try to see what is on. How about black on white? Also, larger type? Have you had any luck?
While there is a guide for Shield TV, it is VERY clunky at the moment. By comparison, the guide Plex now has on the Roku is the kind of well integrated experience I’d like to see on the Shield TV, as well. On the Roku, the guide can be displayed right from the player, with the currently playing channel displayed in a corner of the guide while you browse through the channels. Then selecting another channel immediately begins playing that channel right there in the player. The only things still missing from the Roku experience are the ability to channel up and down within the player at the click of a single button, and the ability to return to the previous channel at the click of a single button.
Conversely, currently on the Shield TV, you have to stop the player, which takes you to a static description page for the channel you were viewing, then back out of that page to display the guide again. Once in the guide, it is quite buggy, with too much scrolling (both vertically and horizontally) causing it to just give up and die. If you do manage to scroll successfully to a new channel, selecting it doesn’t begin playing it right away, though, as you’re first taken to the static description page for that channel. There you have to click another button to FINALLY start playing the channel.
It’s just too many inputs one has to give to navigate around and play one’s channels. That’s why I use Plex right now on my Shield TV for only scheduling and watching recordings, and I use the Live Channels app for watching live TV. It has a guide that is well integrated into the player, just like Plex’s guide is on the Roku. I’d much rather use the Plex app only, but PLEASE, implement what you have on the Roku in Shield TV, too, and soon. Thank you.
