I'm having a constant issue that i couldnt solve even with changing my NAS.
I was using QNAP 469L and using plex , now i changed it to 453 Pro to have the advantage of transcoding as i constantly need access my movies via phone or tablet outside of home.
The problem i'm facing is that Plex works when i first install it but then in 1-2 days when i try to open it from qnap applications or from my phone , i get "ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED" error , i checked if i could reach Plex from any of other systems , MAC , IPAD , ANDROID and another PC running Windows 8 and 7. No chance , so its not about the device i'm using.
My only guess is that it can be because of the router or AP i'm using , but then why i could reach Plex if i turn it off and on again from qnap applications. Everything goes to Normal for a while. Unless Plex decides not to work again.
Does the service show as still running on the qnap?
Yes sir it does.
So.....Summery....
After a while. PMS is not responding, neither via locally IP, nor externally....
So next Q:
Can you reach the QNAP admin interface when this happens?
/T
Yes i can reach QNAP without an issue , actually thats the point i fix it. I go to the app center , turn it "OFF" then "ON" and voilaa! it works again. For a while.
Now i have forwarded the 32400 port for the static ip of NAS , hope this will help as there is nothing else i can think of
Sounds like the PMS app is crashing out, my suggestion is to delete the PMS log. Use it until it stops working and before restarting the app, copy the log and paste it here for us so we can see if there is anything in it to give us a clue as to why it might be crashing.

Static IP is more or less mandatory, cuz otherwise, you'll have to wait for first UPN on the router to catch up, and then for plex.tv to catch up......
But when said, and unless you went by an internal dns name, that also had to catch up, I sadly doubt that's the answer.....
So as Mr.Coffie hinted, I suspect it's logging time, but do switch into debug mode first!

Hello Dane
Thank you for taking time to answer. i will try to find how to take a log in plex and paste it here.
In the meantime we have experienced some electricity shortage due to some work here. Might it be possible that when the electricity goes off and then on it causes a problem at the NAS? But still i can reach the nas although not the plex.

Hey guys, hoping to revive this thread as this is an issue for me too. I just purchased the TS-451 and am having the same problem. I am really hoping to get this fixed as this is the ONLY reason I bought it was so I could do away with my old plex server. I’ve had to restart my nas remotely a few times just so my kids could continue enjoying movies while on this road trip. Please help, thanks very much!

Thanks for replying, didn't have a notification for some reason so checked manually.
Version: 0.9.12.4.1192-9a47d21 (Latest Qnap)
Static: Yes, dual LAN, .240, and .241 respectively. (Everything else works fine)
Port: Port forward 32400 to .240.
ISP: DHCP bridged directly to Netgear WNDR3700v4. Using ddns. (However this issue occurs using local IP as well).
Plex will usually work for a while, when NAS is started up initially, however the next time I check, (or need it), I can't access plex. I have to login and reboot QNAP remotely.
I am new to QNAP, but know enough to know I did everything correctly for package installation and this is some type of internal glitch that needs some work.

First of all, I don't recommend dual IP's on the box, going to the same IP net...That's a bad thing to do, so either disconnect one, or switch into Trunking mode
Secondly verify, that you haven't enabled Jumbo frames...plex.tv will not work properly unless set to 1500
And third....Tell me more about "accessing Plex"....Does this also means from a browser, going to .240:32400/web ?
And 4th ;) the version of Plex is OLD. Check the pinned FAQ for howto download a newer version directly from Plex, instead of using the one from QNAP
I live in Zimbabwe, with lots of power failures causing the QNAP to shutdown quite often. When I restart the NAS, Plex starts but with the ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED error. I have the latest everything (Plex 2.4.16, Windows 10 Client, static ip address on my LAN)
I can stop the Plex Server (via the QNAP GUI) and then restart it and it always starts up fine 2nd time around. It seems to be in a race condition during startup with other processes (I have two QNAP’s, same problem)
Sadly no, and FWIW, I was so close to get a new startup script push to the QNAP builds, that could have fixed this, but sadly, a last minutes test showed it to be a disaster
